Responsible for planning, supervising, and coordinating ship repair, maintenance, modification, and refurbishment activities at shipyards and onboard vessels. The role involves interpreting technical drawings and specifications, coordinating with shipyard teams and subcontractors, and ensuring that repair works are completed safely, efficiently, and according to quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and supervise ship repair, maintenance, modification, and outfitting activities.
- Inspect vessels and identify repair, maintenance, and replacement requirements.
- Coordinate hull, structural, piping, machinery, electrical, and outfitting works.
- Read and interpret ship drawings, layouts, specifications, and repair plans.
- Supervise fabrication, fit-up, welding, installation, alignment, and testing activities.
- Coordinate with shipyard management, vessel crew, clients, subcontractors, and inspection agencies.
- Monitor manpower, materials, tools, and equipment required for repair activities.
- Ensure work is executed as per approved drawings, technical specifications, and project schedules.
- Monitor daily progress and prepare work reports and updates.
- Conduct inspections and coordinate with QA/QC teams for required testing and approvals.
- Ensure compliance with HSE procedures, permit-to-work systems, and shipyard safety requirements.
- Troubleshoot technical issues and provide practical solutions during repair activities.
- Assist in estimation, material requirements, BOQ preparation, and repair planning.
- Coordinate dry-docking, docking/undocking, and vessel repair schedules where applicable.
- Ensure timely completion of repair works within the approved budget and schedule.
Preferred Qualification & Experience:
B.Tech/Diploma in Mechanical/Marine Engineering with relevant experience in ship repair, shipbuilding, dry-dock, marine outfitting, hull works, or vessel maintenance. Experience working in shipyards and coordinating subcontractors will be preferred.
