Summary of the position
The position involves comprehensive engineering support for transmission line design and tower engineering using specialized software such as PLS CADD and PLS Tower. The role focuses on route engineering, tower design, structural assessment, and foundation engineering while ensuring compliance with applicable standards. The candidate will also be responsible for preparing and reviewing engineering deliverables to support project execution.
Key accountabilities
Transmission Line Design & Route Engineering
- Perform tower spotting using PLS CADD.
- Prepare and review line schedules.
- Verify route maps and access maps.
- Conduct internal and external clearance checks as per applicable standards.
- Perform wind pressure and sag-tension calculations.
- Develop and review 3D wire clearance diagrams.
- Prepare profile drawings using PLS CADD.
Tower Engineering
- Model transmission towers using PLS Tower.
- Perform wire and wind loading calculations.
- Execute Method 4 tower design.
- Conduct tower analysis and structural design.
- Design gantry structures.
Assessment & Studies
- Assess structural integrity of existing towers.
- Conduct strengthening assessments.
- Perform Construction Design Studies (CDS).
- Design and verify redundant towers.
Foundation Engineering
- Design foundations for transmission line towers.
- Review and check foundation drawings for compliance and accuracy.
Documentation & Deliverables
- Prepare and validate Bill of Materials (BOM).
- Review GA (General Arrangement) and ED (Erection Drawings).
- Check tower hardware drawings.
Skills and Experience | Essential
- Proficiency in PLS Tower, PLS CADD, and AutoCAD.
- Strong knowledge of transmission line design principles and standards.
- Experience in tower modelling, analysis, and design.
- Familiarity with sag-tension calculations and clearance requirements.
- Experience in route engineering and profile drawing preparation.
- Understanding of foundation design for transmission towers.
- Ability to interpret and review engineering drawings (GA, ED, hardware drawings).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Skills and Experience | Desirable
- Experience in Method 4 analysis and advanced tower optimization techniques.
- Exposure to international standards (IEC, IS, ASCE, etc.).
- Experience in structural assessment and strengthening of existing assets.
- Knowledge of Construction Design Studies (CDS).
- Familiarity with 3D modelling and advanced clearance analysis.
