The Biochemistry Lab Technician is responsible for performing routine and specialized biochemical tests on patient samples while ensuring accuracy, quality, and timely reporting. The role involves operating and maintaining laboratory analyzers, following quality control procedures, and complying with laboratory safety and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Receive, label, and process patient specimens (blood, urine, and other body fluids).
- Perform routine and specialized biochemistry investigations according to laboratory protocols.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain automated biochemistry analyzers.
- Perform Internal Quality Control (IQC) and participate in External Quality Assurance Scheme (EQAS) programs.
- Verify test results and report abnormal findings to the Laboratory In-Charge.
- Maintain accurate documentation of test results, maintenance logs, and quality records.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of laboratory samples and biomedical waste.
- Monitor reagent inventory and inform the supervisor about stock requirements.
- Follow NABL, CAP, or other applicable laboratory quality standards and SOPs.
- Maintain cleanliness, safety, and organization of the laboratory.
- Assist in troubleshooting instrument issues and coordinating preventive maintenance.
- Ensure confidentiality of patient information and laboratory records.
Required Qualifications:
- B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Biochemistry, Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT),
- DMLT/BMLT candidates with relevant biochemistry laboratory experience may also be considered.
Experience:
3 - 5 years of experience in a clinical biochemistry laboratory.
Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of clinical biochemistry testing procedures.
- Hands-on experience with fully automated biochemistry analyzers.
- Understanding of IQC, EQAS, calibration, and quality assurance practices.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety and biomedical waste management.
- Familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) is an added advantage.
Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage workload effectively.
- Willingness to work in rotational shifts, weekends, and holidays if required.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with NABL-accredited laboratories.
- Knowledge of instrument troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.
- Familiarity with accreditation and quality management systems.
