JOB DESCRIPTION
A heavy fabrication CNC operator manufactures industrial tanks, vessels, and containers by programming, setting up, and operating heavy-duty metal processing machinery (bending presses, rollers, plasma/gas cutters, and welders). They must ensure high-precision cuts, accurate bend tolerances, and structurally sound welding on massive steel plates.
Key Responsibilities
1. Machine Setup & Operation
- Bending & Rolling: Set up CNC press brakes and plate bending rollers. Adjust tonnage, dies, and roll clearances to form metal plates and shells according to specific curvature radiuses and angles.
- Cutting & Profiling: Operate CNC plasma and oxy-fuel (gas) cutting machines. Select proper torch heights, gas pressures, and cutting speeds for various plate thicknesses.
- Welding (MIG/TIG): Operate and oversee automated/CNC welding equipment or robotic MIG/TIG stations. Load weld programs, verify shielding gas flow, and adjust wire feed speeds or current for deep penetration.
2. Programming & Blueprint Reading
- Interpret complex engineering drawings, welding symbols, and structural fabrication blueprints.
- Translate blueprint dimensions into CNC commands (G-code/M-code) or utilize CAM software to establish tool paths, nesting for minimal scrap, and welding sequences.
3. Quality Assurance & Inspection
- Perform first-article inspections using heavy-duty measuring tools like tape measures, calipers, micrometers, ultrasonic thickness gauges, and weld inspection gauges.
- Monitor joint fit-up, edge beveling, and root gaps prior to and during the welding process to prevent distortion.
4. Safety & Maintenance
- Comply with strict safety regulations (OSHA, ASME boiler/pressure vessel standards) while handling massive, heavy steel components.
- Conduct preventative daily maintenance on equipment, including cleaning slag, lubricating rollers, changing torch consumables, and clearing gas lines.
Core Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: 3–5 years of operating heavy-duty CNC fabrication machinery and automated welding systems in a heavy manufacturing or pressure vessel/tank environment.
- Technical Skills: Advanced blueprint reading, understanding of ASME Section VIII or relevant fabrication codes, and strong mathematical skills for calculating bend allowances and material stretch.
- Physical & Environmental: Ability to stand for long shifts, lift heavy materials, and work in environments with high noise, heat, and fumes.
Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
