Job Description:
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Principal Systems Architect to define, validate, and guide the development of next-generation industrial process automation solutions.
The successful candidate will combine strong system architecture skills with practical engineering capability. In addition to defining end-to-end architectures, this individual will build proof-of-concepts, prototypes, and reference implementations using embedded Linux, containerized applications, and distributed software technologies.
The ideal candidate has experience with industrial automation or other mission-critical systems and can translate business and product requirements into practical, scalable, and maintainable technical solutions. Experience applying AI technologies within industrial automation is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
Systems Architecture
-
Lead system-level design across embedded devices, operating systems, software applications, networking, edge platforms, and cloud integration.
-
Translate customer, product, and business requirements into scalable and maintainable architectures.
-
Define system components, interfaces, data flows, deployment models, and integration patterns.
-
Evaluate technology options, perform trade-off analyses, and recommend practical solutions.
-
Address complex system challenges involving performance, scalability, reliability, availability, interoperability, and lifecycle support.
-
Develop architecture principles, reference architectures, design patterns, and technical decision records.
-
Work with engineering teams to ensure architectural decisions are understood and implemented effectively.
Hands-On Prototyping and Technical Validation
-
Design and develop proof-of-concepts, prototypes, and reference implementations to validate architectural approaches.
-
Build solutions using embedded Linux, Docker containers, distributed services, and industrial communication technologies.
-
Evaluate emerging technologies through rapid experimentation.
-
Convert successful prototypes into reusable architecture patterns and implementation guidance.
-
Support development teams in resolving complex technical and system integration challenges.
Industrial AI
-
Identify opportunities to apply AI and machine learning within industrial automation.
-
Evaluate AI technologies for industrial automation use cases.
-
Support proof-of-concepts that integrate AI capabilities with embedded devices, industrial edge platforms, and automation systems.
-
Help define how AI models and services should be deployed across device, edge, on-premises, and cloud environments.
-
Ensure AI-enabled capabilities are practical, measurable, and appropriate for industrial operating environments.
(External) English Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
-
10+ years of relevant engineering experience, including significant experience in system or platform architecture.
-
Proven experience designing complex industrial automation, embedded, distributed, or mission-critical systems.
-
Strong hands-on experience with embedded Linux, including developing and deploying Docker containers on embedded, edge, or resource-constrained platforms.
-
Experience defining system components, interfaces, data flows, and deployment architectures.
-
Experience building prototypes or reference implementations to validate architectural decisions.
-
Ability to perform technical trade-off analysis and make practical architecture decisions.
-
Strong communication, collaboration, and technical leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience architecting or implementing AI and machine-learning solutions for industrial automation.
-
Understanding of AI model deployment, edge inference, model monitoring, and MLOps practices.
-
Familiarity with generative AI, retrieval-augmented generation, or industrial AI assistants.
-
Working knowledge of secure-by-design practices, threat modeling, and standards such as IEC 62443.
