VMC Operator (Vertical Machining Centre Operator)
Job Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor VMC/CNC machines according to production requirements.
- Read and understand engineering drawings, dimensions, and tolerances.
- Set up jobs, fixtures, cutting tools, and workpieces on the VMC machine.
- Load and run CNC programs and make basic program adjustments when required.
- Set tool offsets, work offsets, and cutting parameters.
- Inspect components using vernier calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and other measuring instruments.
- Maintain required dimensional accuracy and surface finish.
- Monitor machine operation and identify abnormal sounds, tool wear, or machining problems.
- Replace or adjust cutting tools when required.
- Maintain production records and inspection reports.
- Follow safety procedures, quality standards, and production schedules.
- Keep the machine and work area clean and organized.
- Perform basic machine maintenance and report major breakdowns to the supervisor or maintenance team.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of VMC/CNC machine operation and basic setup.
- Ability to read engineering/technical drawings.
- Knowledge of measuring instruments and basic inspection methods.
- Understanding of cutting tools, tool offsets, and machining parameters.
- Basic knowledge of CNC G-code and M-code.
- Good attention to detail and quality.
- Ability to work in shifts and meet production targets.
Qualification & Experience
- ITI/Diploma in Machinist, Fitter, Mechanical, or related trade preferred.
- 0–5 years of experience in VMC/CNC machine operation, depending on the position.
- Freshers with relevant ITI/CNC training may also be considered.
