1. Job Purpose
The principal-Data Business Partner will be responsible for translating business requirements into design, architecting, and implementing modern data solutions for the Finance department. He will be focused on delivering high-quality solutions by independently driving design discussions related to Data Ingestion, Transformation & Consumption, Data Storage and Computation Frameworks, Performance Optimizations in both On-prem and Azure cloud platform.
This role is pivotal in delivering tangible efficiency improvements across manual finance processes and journal preparation leveraging tools such as Power Query, Power Automate, Power BI while also supporting and shaping the broader strategic roadmap.
The ideal candidate will be a seasoned data technologist having a blend of experience across delivery, business development and the practical application of contemporary data technologies relevant to the Finance domain. They will ideally have prior consulting experience and will be enthusiastic about technology and its widespread application in business transformation (Finance). Experience in working within the Banking Industry (in banking, vendors or a large tech firm) is highly desirable.
2. Core Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and thought leadership as a senior member of the Data team in areas such as data access & ingestion, data processing, data integration, data modelling, database design & implementation, data visualization, and advanced analytics.
- Analyse current business practices, processes, and procedures as well as identifying future business opportunities for leveraging Microsoft Azure Data & Analytics Services (Power Query, Power Automate, Power BI)
- Provide technical insight on the following: Design, code reviews, development, quality assurance.
- Help in establishing standard data practices like governance and address other non-functional issues like data security, privacy, and quality.
- Manage and provide technical leadership to a data program implementation based on the requirement using agile technologies.
- Engage and collaborate with Finance business users to understand business requirements/use cases and translate them into detailed technical specifications.
- Develop best practices including reusable code, libraries, patterns, and consumable frameworks for On-prem + Azure data warehousing and data pipelines.
- Understand business drivers and business capabilities (future and current state for Finance Business Function) and determine corresponding enterprise application designs and change requirements to drive the organisation's targeted business outcomes.
- Work closely with the program management office (PMO) to ensure the execution of plans corresponds with what is being promised.
Process automation and delivery
- Identify high volume, manual or error prone processes and deliver automation solutions using Power Platform tools (e.g. Power Query, Power Automate, Power BI)
- Build tools to automate recurring journals, reconciliations, reporting packs, data validation rules
- Work with finance teams to document as is processes and developed to be workflows
Data & reporting
- Improve data integration, transformation and visualisation of finance data using Power BI and excel dashboards
- Support the development of variance analysis using linked data models
- Ensure data accuracy, version control and auditability of automated controls
3. Experience Requirements
- Overall 15+ years of IT experience preferably in Data and Analytics implementation.
- 8-10 years of Data engineering and Data Analytics (Both On-prem and Cloud) delivery experience including Architecture / analysis / development / configuration/ deployment.
- 3-7 years in finance operations, transformation or data automation roles
- Expert in Power Query, Power Automate, Power BI, SQL, Python
- Good Exposure in development with CI / CD pipelines. Knowledge of containerization, orchestration would be an added advantage.
- Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong expertise in Power BI , DAX, Power Query (M) and Tabular editor
- Knowledge of SQL, Azure Analysis Services / SSAS and other BI tools like Tableau/SAP BO/Qliksense/Looker is a plus
- Experience in working in a fast-paced agile environment.
- Strong experience in common data warehouse modelling principles including Kimball, Inmon.
4. Knowledge Requirements
- Excellent understanding of data technologies landscape/ecosystem (Both On-prem and Cloud)
- Detailed knowledge of Software development and Application Architecture is essential.
- Detailed knowledge of SQL (Structured Query Language) programming is essential.
- Proven experience in business and technical problem-solving skills is essential.
- Proven experience of delivering automation and process improvements in finance environments
- Understands journal entries, reconciliations, month end close processes
- Proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment
- Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills
- Excellent leadership and management skills
- Excellent organizational, multi-tasking, and time-management skills
5. Skill and Competency Requirements
- Advanced analytical skills are essential.
- Advanced communication skills are essential.
- Advanced Problem-Solving skill is essential.
- Moderate skills of Data Modelling are desirable.
6. Required Qualifications/Certifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, information systems, or related field, and / or equivalent work experience is essential.
