1. Technical Laboratory & Spectro Management
- Spectro Room Oversight: Manage the Optical Emission Spectrometer (OES) to ensure precise chemical composition analysis of heats from the SMS.
- Calibration: Maintain a strict schedule for the calibration of Spectro machines, UTM (Universal Testing Machines), and all measuring instruments.
- Heat Traceability: Ensure every billet from the CCM and every structural section from the Rolling Mill is mapped to its specific heat number and chemical report.
2. Process Inspection & Quality Control
- SMS & CCM: Monitor input scrap quality and supervise the casting process to prevent internal defects like blowholes, cracks, or piping.
- Rolling Mill: Oversee dimensional inspections (web/flange thickness, mass per meter, straightness) for sections like I-Beams, Channels, and Angles.
- Testing: Conduct physical tests (Tensile, YS, Elongation, and Bend tests) to ensure compliance with IS standards (e.g., IS 2062).
3. Legal Documentation & Statutory Compliance
- BIS & ISO: Act as the primary custodian for BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) licenses and ISO certifications.
- MTC Generation: Authorize and issue Mill Test Certificates (MTC) for all outgoing dispatches.
- Legal Liaison: Ensure the plant meets all quality-related statutory requirements, including Environmental and Pollution Control Board norms where they intersect with lab testing.
4. Audit Management
- External Audits: Serve as the lead point of contact for external auditors, third-party inspection agencies (like TPIs), and government inspectors.
- Internal Audits: Conduct regular internal quality audits across the Furnace and Rolling Mill departments to identify process gaps.
- Vendor Audits: Periodically audit raw material suppliers to ensure the quality of sponge iron, pig iron, or scrap.
