Job Summary
The Restaurant Captain is responsible for supervising the front-of-house team, ensuring exceptional guest service, and maintaining high standards consistent with a European-style dining experience. The Captain acts as a bridge between management and service staff, ensuring smooth daily operations and guest satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise and coordinate daily activities of waiters, bartenders, and host staff
- Conduct pre-shift briefings and assign service stations
- Monitor staff grooming and adherence to restaurant standards
- Train and mentor new service staff on European service etiquette
Guest Service Excellence
- Welcome and seat guests in a professional and courteous manner
- Ensure guests receive attentive, personalized service
- Handle guest complaints or special requests promptly and professionally
- Maintain knowledge of menu items, wine pairings, and daily specials
European Service Standards
- Ensure proper table setting according to European dining traditions
- Oversee fine dining service techniques (silver service, wine service, course timing)
- Maintain high standards of hygiene and presentation
Operational Duties
- Coordinate with kitchen team for smooth food service
- Monitor order accuracy and service timing
- Assist in inventory of service items (cutlery, glassware, linens)
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations
Qualifications & Skills
- Diploma or degree in Hospitality Management preferred
- 2–4 years of experience in fine dining or European cuisine restaurant
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of European wines and dining etiquette
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Fluent in English (additional European languages are a plus)
