Position Summary
The Turner is responsible for operating conventional lathe machines and carrying out precision machining, fabrication, and repair of machine components required for the maintenance and smooth operation of PVC and HDPE pipe manufacturing equipment. The role involves machining shafts, bushes, sleeves, rollers, couplings, threads, and other mechanical parts as per drawings and specifications.
Key ResponsibilitiesMachine Operations
- Operate conventional lathe machines safely and efficiently.
- Perform turning, facing, threading, boring, drilling, knurling, and taper turning operations.
- Set up jobs, tools, and workpieces on lathe machines.
- Select appropriate cutting tools, speeds, and feeds for different materials.
Fabrication & Maintenance Support
- Manufacture and repair machine components used in PVC and HDPE pipe extrusion lines.
- Fabricate shafts, bushes, spacers, rollers, couplings, flanges, and other maintenance spares.
- Recondition worn-out machine parts to extend service life.
- Assist maintenance team during machinery breakdowns and shutdown activities.
Quality Control
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Measure finished components using vernier calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and other precision instruments.
- Ensure components meet required dimensions and tolerances.
- Maintain quality standards and minimize material wastage.
Workshop Maintenance
- Maintain machines, tools, and work areas in good condition.
- Ensure proper lubrication and routine upkeep of workshop equipment.
- Maintain records of jobs completed and materials used.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all plant safety procedures and workshop safety standards.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) during machining operations.
- Maintain good housekeeping practices in the machine shop.
Required Qualifications
- ITI Turner (Mandatory).
- Additional certification in Machinist trade will be an advantage.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and use precision measuring instruments.
Experience
- 3–8 years of experience as a Turner in a manufacturing industry.
- Experience in plastics, engineering, fabrication, or machine maintenance workshops preferred.
- Experience in machining stainless steel, mild steel, cast iron, and engineering plastics preferred.
Technical Skills
- Operation of conventional lathe machines.
- Thread cutting (metric and inch).
- Precision measurement and inspection.
- Basic welding and fabrication knowledge preferred.
- Knowledge of machine maintenance and workshop practices.

Preferred Experience for Moyalan Plastics
- Experience in manufacturing or repairing parts for HDPE and PVC pipe extrusion machinery.
- Knowledge of extruder components, rollers, shafts, bushings, gear assemblies, and hydraulic systems.
- Ability to fabricate emergency breakdown spares to reduce machine downtime.
