Pattern Head – Manhole Cover Division (Foundry)
1. ROLE OVERVIEW Role Title Pattern Head – Foundry Operations (Ductile Iron Casting – Manhole Cover Division) Company JPK Metallics Pvt. Ltd. (Howrah Branch) Role Nature This is a critical technical and operational leadership role, not a design-only or supervisory role. The candidate will: ● Lead complete pattern shop operations ● Ensure accuracy, durability, and readiness of patterns for production ● Coordinate closely with molding and production teams ● Oversee pattern development, modification, and maintenance ● Maintain dimensional control and standardization ● Ensure minimal rejection due to pattern-related issue ● Accountable for all pattern related jobs Primary Goal Ensure availability of high-quality, dimensionally accurate, and production-ready patterns to support consistent output of ductile iron manhole covers with minimal defects and downtime.
2. IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE Experience Required ● Minimum 7–10 years in foundry / casting industry (5-7 years in Manhole Cover casting) ● Strong exposure to: ○ Manhole cover casting ○ Pattern design and making (wood, metal, aluminum) ○ Foundry molding compatibility ○ Methoding Mandatory Technical Exposure Candidate MUST have hands-on experience in: ● Pattern design and making for ductile iron castings ● Contraction allowance, machining allowance, draft angles ● Core box design and usage ● Pattern layout planning for productivity ● Pattern maintenance and repair systems ● Understanding of casting defects linked to pattern issues ● Deep understanding of cast iron & ductile iron casting behavior ● Hands-on experience with Core boxes ● Ability to convert 2D/3D drawings → manufacturable patterns ● Proficiency in CAD tools like: AutoCAD / SolidWorks / NX / Creo ● Must know moulding processes: ○ Jolt squeeze ○ High-pressure molding (for comparison & future scaling) ○ Methoding Avoid Candidates With ● Only CAD/design background without shop floor experience ● Non-foundry manufacturing background ● Pure carpentry or fabrication without foundry knowledge ● Quality inspection-only roles Education ● Diploma / ITI / B.Tech in Mechanical / Foundry / Pattern Making preferred ● Practical exposure is more important than formal qualification Salary Benchmark (West Bengal) ₹50,000 –75,000 month depending on: ● Experience ● Technical expertise ● Leadership capability
3. CORE COMPETENCIES REQUIRED A. Pattern & Foundry Process Expertise Candidate must demonstrate: ● Strong understanding of pattern design principles ● Deep understanding of cast iron & ductile iron casting behavior ● Expertise in pattern allowances: ○ Contraction ○ Machining ○ Draft/taper (especially for jolt squeeze vs high-pressure molding vs hand moulding) ● Knowledge of: ○ Contraction allowances (DI casting specific) ○ Draft angles & machining allowances ○ Gating & riser integration(Through knowledge) ● Ability to identify and troubleshoot pattern-related defects such as: ○ Mismatch ○ Dimensional inaccuracies ○ Flash / fins ○ Core shift ○ Blow holes ○ Shrinkage defects etc. ● Understanding of how pattern impacts final casting quality ● Post production sample testing (Dimension, load etc.) ● Knowledge & Experience of handling audits (BSI,EN+ZG etc) B. Pattern Development & Modification Candidate must be able to: ● Develop new patterns based on drawings / samples ● Modify existing patterns for defect correction or productivity ● Optimize pattern & methoding layout for better yield and output ● Ensure interchangeability and standardization C. Pattern Maintenance & Control Must have strong knowledge of: ● Pattern storage systems and handling ● Preventive maintenance of patterns ● Repair techniques for worn-out patterns ● Pattern life cycle management ● Identification of wear & tear impact on casting quality D. Coordination with Molding & Production ● Candidate’s strong suits must include: ● Close coordination with molding team for pattern usability ● Understanding molding constraints and adapting patterns accordingly ● Supporting production during breakdowns or urgent requirements ● Ensuring patterns are always production-ready & delivered on time ● Regularly check castings on the shop floor to identify potential delays well in advance ● Coordinate with despatch, production & sales team to make ready the pattern for smooth & on time production E. Shop Floor Leadership Candidate must demonstrate: ● Handling pattern shop workforce effectively ● Managing carpenters, fabricators, Pattern machine,designers,machine and helpers ● Ensuring discipline and accountability ● Maintaining organized and efficient pattern shop ● Taking quick decisions in high-pressure production situations F. Data & Reporting Candidate must: ● Maintain pattern inventory records ● Track pattern usage and maintenance schedules ● Analyze rejection due to pattern issues ● Maintain daily reports of pattern shop activities ● Support production and despatch planning with pattern readiness 4.
