Senior Backend Software Engineer I
The Job
We are looking for a Senior Backend Software Engineer to join our team and help us to improve the platform that supports one of the best experimentation tools in the world You will work side by side with other engineers to improve the experimentation API ecosystem that enables all the products that are part of the experimentation tool at Bookingcom
Your day to day work includes but is not limited to the development of APIs to expose experimentation data to internal and external consumers in the company. You will collaborate with colleagues in Amsterdam to achieve results the right way. This will include engineering managers product managers engineers and data scientists
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Lead the development and maintenance of backend APIs that powers various products
- Solve complex technical problems to improve our development process increase our effi ciency and unlock new business opportunities
- Take initiative to improve existing solutions challenge decisions propose augmented alternatives and address technical debt
- Lead the technical discussion around software architecture and guide the team to make decisions that are agile incremental and benefi cial for the long term
- Responsible to refactor and simplify code by introducing design patterns when necessary and guide more junior members of the team in this topic
- Coach guide and improve the overall performance of more junior colleagues
The job requirements
- Minimum 10 years of handson experience in software engineering development with extensive knowledge of at least one backend language like Perl Java NodeJS JavaScript or Python
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science Computer or Electrical Engineering Mathematics or a related fi eld or 57 years of progressively responsible experience in the specialty as equivalent
- Extensive knowledge and experience in domain based systems design including API design management documentation and governance
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to infl uence and cooperate with people at all levels
- Experience with mentoring coaching and training team members formal and informal
- Experience driving successful technical business and people related initiatives that improved productivity performance and quality
- Demonstrable experience with MySQL or similar relational databases
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes is a plus
- Experience working with teams located in different timezones is a plus
- Experience with statistics and AB testing is a plus
