Engineering Leadership | Individual Contributor + People Manager
Role: Senior Software Development Manager (SDM)
Reporting to: CTO
Location: Pune, Maharashtra
Experience: 4–8 years (with at least 2 years in a tech leadership or team management capacity)
Compensation: Competitive Fixed + Performance Bonus + ESOPs
Source. One is India’s largest and fastest-growing polymer distribution company. As a technology-first organisation, we are redefining traditional supply chains through scalable digital platforms, intelligent in-house tools, and data-driven systems. Our proprietary technology stack powers procurement, pricing, logistics, and operations at scale across a PAN-India network of 13,000+ manufacturing and trading partners. As we move toward our next phase of growth, AI-driven automation and multi-vertical platform development are core to our roadmap.
The Software Development Manager (SDM) is a senior engineering leadership role at Source.One. This is not a purely managerial position—we are looking for a hands-on technical leader who can architect, build, and deliver, while simultaneously raising the bar for the broader engineering team. Think of this role as the connective tissue between individual execution and organisational engineering strategy. The SDM will take ownership of multiple product verticals in flight, drive technical architecture decisions, and be the kind of leader who can both write production-grade code and inspire a team of senior engineers to do their best work. We are building toward this person becoming a potential AVP of Technology as the organisation scales.
Technical Architecture & System Design
-
Own and drive the end-to-end technical architecture for multiple product verticals, from conceptualisation through design, development, and deployment.
-
Define scalable, secure, and maintainable system design principles across backend, frontend, and data layers.
-
Be a decisive voice in architectural reviews and tech stack decisions—ensuring alignment between business goals and engineering choices.
-
Proactively identify technical debt and lead initiatives to address it before it becomes a scaling risk.
Full-Stack Engineering Ownership
-
Contribute actively to the codebase—design, build, and review production-ready web and mobile applications using the MERN stack and Flutter.
-
Architect and deliver secure, high-performance backend systems, REST APIs, and internal tooling aligned with real business workflows.
-
Ensure engineering excellence across code quality, testing, CI/CD, monitoring, performance optimisation, and security practices.
AI/ML Integration & Intelligent Systems
-
Lead the integration of AI and ML capabilities—including LLM-based systems, intelligent search, predictive analytics, automated data enrichment, and AI-assisted workflows—into production applications.
-
Champion applied AI initiatives across procurement, operations, reporting, and support functions.
-
Stay ahead of emerging AI/ML tooling and evaluate feasibility for adoption within Source’s architecture.
Team Leadership & People Management
-
Lead, mentor, and manage a team of senior software engineers—setting clear expectations, driving accountability, and fostering a high-performance engineering culture.
-
Be the kind of manager who can get work done through the team, not just alongside it—coaching engineers to operate with ownership and autonomy.
-
Conduct regular one-on-ones, performance reviews, and growth conversations. Identify skill gaps and support team development proactively.
-
Attract, retain, and grow engineering talent as the organisation scales.
Multi-Vertical Delivery Ownership
-
Oversee the parallel development of multiple product verticals—managing timelines, dependencies, and engineering priorities across teams.
-
Work closely with product, operations, analytics, and business leadership to translate ambiguous requirements into clear, executable engineering plans.
-
Drive delivery without sacrificing quality—balancing speed, scalability, and technical correctness.
Technology Strategy & Roadmap
-
Contribute to the long-term technology roadmap in collaboration with the Head of Technology and CTO.
-
Bring structure and rigour to engineering planning—sprint cycles, OKRs, architectural decision records, and cross-functional alignment.
-
Represent the engineering perspective in leadership discussions and translate business context back to the team.
-
Experienced Engineering Leader: 4–8 years of hands-on software engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a formal or de facto leadership role. You have managed or closely mentored senior engineers, not just junior developers.
-
Strong Technical Foundation: Deep proficiency in JavaScript (ES6+), React.js, Node.js, MongoDB, Flutter, and PostgreSQL. You can still get into the code when it matters—and it will matter.
-
Architecture-First Thinker: You think in systems, not features. You understand distributed systems, database design, cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP), API design, and performance at scale. You have contributed meaningfully to architecture decisions, not just implemented them.
-
AI/ML-Capable Builder: Hands-on experience integrating AI/ML APIs, LLM-based systems, or intelligent automation into production-grade applications. You understand where AI genuinely adds value and where it doesn’t.
-
People Manager Who Delivers: You know how to get the best out of a team—set direction, unblock engineers, hold people accountable, and build a culture of ownership. You lead from the front and earn respect through both competence and character.
-
Multi-Vertical Operator: Comfortable managing parallel workstreams across different product areas. You can context-switch without losing depth, and you bring structure to ambiguity.
-
AVP-Track Potential: You are not just filling a role—you are building toward broader organisational responsibility. You think about the engineering function, not just your team’s backlog.
-
Ownership Mindset: High accountability, low ego. You take responsibility for outcomes—good and bad—and you hold your team to the same standard.
-
Real-World Impact at Scale: Build and lead systems that power one of India’s largest industrial supply chains—affecting thousands of businesses across the country.
-
Engineering Leadership with Teeth: This is not a title—it is a mandate. You will have the authority, the team, and the visibility to make decisions that shape the technical direction of the organisation.
-
AI at the Core: Work hands-on with applied AI and automation in production-grade systems—not as a future roadmap item, but as active engineering.
-
Clear Growth Path: A well-defined trajectory toward AVP of Technology as Source. One scales. This is a role for someone who wants to grow into a senior engineering leadership function, not plateau in it.
-
Strong Upside: Competitive compensation with performance-linked bonuses, double-digit annual increments, and long-term ESOP value.
-
Ownership Culture: High trust, high responsibility, and direct access to senior business and technology leadership. No bureaucratic ceiling.
If you are a technical leader who can architect systems, inspire teams, and drive delivery across a fast-moving organisation—we would like to meet you.
