About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Assistant Production Manager to oversee and manage the manufacturing operations of environmental monitoring systems (air quality monitors, water quality analyzers, weather stations, emission monitoring systems, and related instrumentation). The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in electronics, telecommunication, or instrumentation engineering, combined with hands-on production/manufacturing management experience in an electronics or instrumentation-based industry.
This role requires a person who can manage shop-floor operations, ensure product quality and timely delivery, coordinate with cross-functional teams (R&D, quality, procurement, and service), and drive continuous improvement in manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities
Production Planning & Execution
- Plan, schedule, and supervise daily production activities to meet delivery timelines and order commitments.
- Allocate manpower, machines, and materials efficiently across assembly lines and testing stations.
- Monitor production targets and ensure adherence to production schedules for PCB assembly, panel wiring, sensor integration, and final product assembly.
- Coordinate with the planning/procurement team to ensure timely availability of components, sensors, electronic parts, and electrical panel materials.
Manufacturing & Process Oversight
- Supervise assembly, wiring, and integration of electronic boards, sensors, electrical panels, and enclosures used in environmental monitoring instruments.
- Ensure correct implementation of SOPs for assembly, calibration, and testing of finished products.
- Oversee functional testing, calibration, and quality checks of sensors and instruments before dispatch.
- Identify and resolve production bottlenecks, technical issues, and process inefficiencies on the shop floor.
- Drive process improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, reduce rework, and minimize production costs.
Quality & Compliance
- Work closely with the Quality team to ensure products meet internal quality standards and applicable regulatory/certification requirements (CPCB, BIS, CE, or relevant environmental monitoring standards).
- Ensure proper documentation of test reports, calibration certificates, and production records.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for recurring production or field issues.
Team Management
- Supervise, guide, and mentor production staff, technicians, and assembly line operators.
- Conduct training for new joinees and existing staff on assembly processes, safety practices, and quality standards.
- Manage shift schedules, attendance, and performance of the production team.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Liaise with the R&D team for new product introduction (NPI), design changes, and pilot batch production.
- Coordinate with the Service/Field team to address production-related feedback from installed systems.
- Support procurement in vendor evaluation for electronic components, sensors, and panel materials.
- Report production status, issues, and KPIs to senior management on a regular basis.
Required Skills & Knowledge
- Strong understanding of electronics, telecommunication systems, or instrumentation principles relevant to monitoring equipment manufacturing.
- Practical knowledge of electrical panel assembly, wiring practices, and panel components (MCBs, relays, contactors, terminal blocks).
- Familiarity with sensors used in environmental monitoring (gas, particulate matter, water quality, temperature/humidity, flow, etc.) and their integration/testing requirements.
- Working knowledge of PCB assembly processes, soldering standards, and electronic testing procedures.
- Understanding of communication modules/protocols (GSM/GPRS, RS485, Modbus, LoRa, Wi-Fi) used in monitoring instruments, sufficient to manage integration and testing during production.
- Experience with production planning tools, ERP/MRP systems, and production documentation (BOMs, work orders, test reports).
- Knowledge of quality systems such as ISO 9001 and basic understanding of CAPA, root-cause analysis, and process audits.
- Strong people management and shop-floor supervision skills.
Preferred / Good to Have
- Prior experience specifically in the environmental monitoring, IoT-based instrumentation, or test & measurement equipment manufacturing industry.
- Exposure to lean manufacturing or 5S practices in an electronics/instrumentation assembly environment.
- Experience handling new product introduction (NPI) and pilot production runs in coordination with R&D.
- Familiarity with environmental and safety compliance requirements applicable to electronics manufacturing units.
Soft Skills & Attributes
- Strong leadership and team management capabilities with the ability to handle a diverse shop-floor workforce.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive, hands-on approach to resolving production issues.
- Good communication and coordination skills to work across departments (R&D, quality, procurement, service).
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Ownership mindset with a focus on quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- B.E./B.Tech or Diploma in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a closely related field.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in production/manufacturing roles, preferably within electronics, instrumentation, or environmental monitoring equipment manufacturing.
- Prior experience in a supervisory or team-lead capacity on the shop floor is required.
What We Offer
- Opportunity to lead manufacturing operations for impactful environmental monitoring products.
- A collaborative environment working closely with R&D, quality, and service teams on cutting-edge instrumentation.
- Competitive compensation based on experience and skill set.
- Growth path toward senior production/operations leadership roles.
