Job Summary
The Senior Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing, supervising, and monitoring laboratory investigations while ensuring accuracy, quality control, and compliance with hospital and regulatory standards. The role includes managing laboratory operations, overseeing junior technicians, maintaining laboratory equipment, and supporting timely and accurate diagnostic services.
Key ResponsibilitiesLaboratory Operations
- Perform and supervise routine and specialized laboratory tests in Hematology, Biochemistry, Clinical Pathology, Microbiology, and Serology.
- Ensure accurate specimen collection, processing, analysis, and reporting.
- Verify test results and report abnormal findings to the concerned physician or pathologist.
- Maintain turnaround times for laboratory investigations.
- Ensure proper labeling, handling, and storage of specimens.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Implement and monitor quality control procedures for all laboratory tests.
- Ensure compliance with NABH, infection control, and laboratory safety standards.
- Participate in internal and external quality assurance programs.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records, logs, and documentation.
- Assist during audits, inspections, and accreditation processes.
Equipment Management
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment and analyzers.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance and service schedules.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and liaise with service engineers when required.
- Ensure adequate availability of reagents, consumables, and laboratory supplies.
Team Management
- Supervise and guide junior lab technicians and support staff.
- Provide training and orientation to new laboratory personnel.
- Prepare work schedules and ensure adequate staffing.
- Monitor staff performance and adherence to laboratory protocols.
Safety & Infection Control
- Follow biosafety and infection control guidelines.
- Ensure proper disposal of biomedical waste as per regulations.
- Maintain a safe working environment for laboratory personnel.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT) or
- Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology (B.Sc. MLT) or equivalent qualification.
Experience
- Minimum 2-5 years of experience in a hospital diagnostic laboratory.
- Experience in handling automated laboratory analyzers and quality control systems preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures and diagnostic techniques.
- Proficiency in operating laboratory equipment and analyzers.
- Knowledge of quality assurance and NABH standards.
- Leadership and team supervision skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good communication and documentation skills.
- Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
Working Conditions
- Hospital-based laboratory environment.
- Rotational shifts, including weekends and emergency duties as required.
- Exposure to biological samples and laboratory chemicals while following safety protocols.
Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
