The Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading the maintenance and reliability functions across both steel fabrication/processing and wood manufacturing lines. This role ensures maximum operational efficiency, stringent safety compliance, and proactive upkeep of highly specialized heavy machinery.
Key ResponsibilitiesMaintenance Operations & Strategy
- Predictive & Preventive Maintenance (PdM/PM): Develop, execute, and continuously improve PM schedules for all plant assets to minimize unplanned downtime.
- Asset Reliability: Oversee mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems specific to steel and wood processing (e.g., CNC routers, saws, presses, rolling mills, furnaces, and conveyors).
- Breakdown Management: Lead rapid-response troubleshooting teams during equipment failures, analyzing root causes to prevent recurrence.
Industry-Specific Duties
- Wood Manufacturing: Manage maintenance for high-RPM cutting tools, dust extraction systems, timber drying kilns, and laminating/pressing machinery.
- Steel Manufacturing: Oversee upkeep of melting furnaces, casting equipment, shears, hydraulic presses, and overhead cranes.
Budget & Inventory Management
- Budget Administration: Develop and control the annual maintenance budget, controlling CapEx and operational expenditures.
- Spare Parts Inventory: Manage stock levels for critical components (bearings, electrical controls, cutting blades, steel rolls) using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software.
Team Leadership
- Staff Development: Hire, train, and mentor a team of multi-skilled maintenance technicians and supervisors.
- Scheduling: Delegate daily, weekly, and shutdown maintenance tasks.
Safety & Compliance
- Regulatory Standards: Ensure complete compliance with OSHA, EPA, and local environmental/industrial safety guidelines.
- Safety Enforcement: Implement Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, machine guarding compliance, and routine safety audits.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE): Tracking availability, performance, and quality metrics.
- Unplanned Downtime: Reducing hours of lost production.
- Budget Variance: Tracking actual maintenance costs against forecasted allowances.
- PM Compliance: Percentage of scheduled preventive maintenance tasks completed on time.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering.
- Experience: 7+ years of industrial maintenance management experience, with proven exposure to both steel and wood/heavy manufacturing.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in CMMS/ERP software, hydraulic and electrical troubleshooting, and reading engineering blueprints.
- Soft Skills: Strong crisis management, vendor negotiation, and team leadership abilities.
