Job Summary: A Planning Engineer is responsible for preparing, monitoring, and controlling project schedules to ensure construction activities are completed on time and within budget. The role involves coordinating with project teams, tracking progress, identifying delays, and recommending corrective actions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed project schedules using Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.
- Prepare baseline schedules, work breakdown structures (WBS), and project milestones.
- Monitor project progress and update schedules regularly.
- Track planned vs. actual progress and identify schedule variances.
- Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports for management and clients.
- Coordinate with project managers, site engineers, quantity surveyors, procurement, and subcontractors to ensure activities are executed as planned.
- Perform critical path analysis and identify potential risks to project completion.
- Develop recovery and mitigation plans for delayed activities.
- Monitor labour, equipment, and material resources against the project schedule.
- Assist in preparing construction methodologies and execution plans.
- Participate in project meetings and present schedule updates.
- Evaluate extension of time (EOT) claims and analyse delay impacts when required.
- Ensure compliance with contract specifications and project requirements.
- Maintain project documentation related to planning and scheduling.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of construction planning and scheduling.
- Proficiency in Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.
- Good understanding of construction sequences and methodologies.
- Knowledge of project control, earned value management (EVM), and critical path method (CPM).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and coordination abilities.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings and project specifications.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and reporting tools.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
- 6+ years of experience in building construction planning (depending on the seniority level).
- Experience with high-rise, or mixed-use building projects.
- Primavera P6 certification is an added advantage.
