Civil Line Signalman – Job Profile
Job Title: Civil Line Signalman / Banksman / Flagman
Department: Civil Construction / Site Operations
Reports To: Site Engineer / Site Supervisor / Safety Officer
Job Responsibilities
- Direct and control the movement of heavy vehicles, cranes, excavators, dumpers, and other construction equipment.
- Use standard hand signals, flags, whistles, or radios to communicate with equipment operators.
- Ensure the work area is clear before allowing machinery to move.
- Guide vehicles safely during reversing, loading, unloading, and parking.
- Coordinate with crane operators during lifting activities.
- Prevent unauthorized persons from entering hazardous work zones.
- Monitor traffic movement within the construction site.
- Place and remove traffic cones, barricades, warning signs, and safety tapes.
- Report unsafe conditions, accidents, or near misses to the supervisor immediately.
- Ensure compliance with company safety procedures and site traffic management plans.
- Assist in emergency situations by directing people and vehicles safely.
- Maintain good communication with site engineers, supervisors, and safety personnel.
Skills Required
- Knowledge of standard hand signals and traffic control.
- Good communication skills.
- Basic understanding of construction safety.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Alertness and quick decision-making.
- Physical fitness for outdoor work.
Qualification
- Basic safety training.
- Signalman/Banksman certification (preferred).
- Experience in civil construction projects is an advantage.
