Summary The Solution Architect is responsible for designing and overseeing the implementation of technology solutions that address business requirements whilst aligning with the organisations enterprise architecture standards and strategic direction This role bridges the gap between business stakeholders and technical delivery teams ensuring solutions are fit for purpose scalable secure and maintainable Working alongside the PM and BA through Discover Design the Solutions Architect produces the Solution in Principal SiP and Solution Architecture Document SAD for Design Authority approval before build commences
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the design and documentation of the solution architecture for the assigned programme producing the Solution in Principal SiP as a highlevel design and the Solution Architecture Document SAD as the full detailed design
Present the SAD to the Waystone Design Authority and Architecture Governance board obtaining formal approval before the Build Test phase begins
Engage with business stakeholders to understand requirements constraints and drivers translating these into robust technical solutions in collaboration with the Business Analyst
Ensure the solution aligns with Waystone enterprise architecture standards SDLC and SSDLC policies security frameworks and data governance requirements
Provide ongoing architectural guidance and technical direction to the Senior Developer Lead Developer and delivery team throughout the Build Test phase
Evaluate and recommend technology options conducting feasibility assessments and proof of concepts where necessary
Produce and maintain architecture artefacts including context diagrams component diagrams integration patterns data flow diagrams and architectural decision records ADRs
Identify and manage technical risks dependencies and assumptions escalating issues to the Waystone Architecture Manager as appropriate
Participate in architecture review boards and governance forums contributing to Waystonewide architectural standards and practices
Collaborate with the Waystone Run Protect team to ensure the solution meets Operational Readiness criteria prior to production deployment
Ensure nonfunctional requirements including performance observability security and maintainability are embedded in the solution design from the outset
Provide handovers and support to the wider architects and technical staff fostering knowledge sharing and capability development within the team
REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill andor ability required
Experience writing reviewing and maintaining solution architecture documentation using standard notations eg UML ArchiMate C4 model
Strong understanding of enterprise architecture frameworks eg TOGAF Zachman and their practical application
Experience designing solutions across application data integration infrastructure and security architectural domains
Strong understanding of containerisation cloudnative delivery patterns and modern software engineering practices
Familiarity with enterprise technology standards delivery tooling and SDLCSSDLC concepts and policies
Knowledge of observability instrumentation and operational readiness practices
Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex technical designs to governance boards and nontechnical stakeholders
Experience
Demonstrable experience in a Solution Architect or Senior Technical Architect role with a track record of delivering complex solutions through formal governance processes
Experience producing formal architecture deliverables SiP SAD HLD LLD and presenting them for Design Authority approval
Experience with structured delivery frameworks and architecture governance models in enterprise environments
Experience in financial services or regulated industry environments is beneficial
Knowledge of modern integration approaches including REST APIs eventdriven architectures and enterprise integration patterns
Education
Degree in Computer Science Information Technology Engineering or a related discipline or equivalent experience Professional certifications such as TOGAF AWSAzureGCP Solution Architect or equivalent are advantageous
