ROLE OVERVIEW
The Senior Manager – SEO is a leadership role responsible for shaping and driving end-to-end SEO strategy across client engagements. You will lead and mentor an experienced SEO team, consult directly with clients on natural search performance, and ensure adherence to evolving search engine algorithms and best practices. This role combines strategic ownership, hands-on technical and content expertise, and team leadership — along with the integration of AI-powered tools to deliver scalable, future-ready SEO outcomes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. SEO Strategy Development & Client Consulting
Develop comprehensive SEO strategies, consult with clients on natural search tactics, and design training programs that empower clients to sustain long-term SEO success independently.
2. Team Leadership & Client Engagement
Lead and develop an experienced SEO team to drive successful client engagements, ensuring consistent delivery of strong natural search results across all accounts.
3. Algorithm Awareness & Best Practices
Maintain deep understanding of and adherence to search engine algorithms, ranking shifts, evolving requirements, and best-of-breed SEO methodologies.
4. Keyword Research Strategy
Lead keyword research strategies covering head and long-tail terms, user search intent, and competitive opportunity mapping to inform content and optimisation plans.
5. Site Structure & Technical Audits
Conduct site structure analysis, navigation reviews, page construction assessments, and comprehensive site audits to recommend improvements for optimal search engine friendliness and indexing.
6. On-Page Optimisation & Content Strategy
Drive on-page optimisation including content development strategies supported by professional copywriting — covering meta tags, content relevancy, keyword integration, and semantic relevance.
7. Link Building & Off-Page Strategy
Design and execute link-building strategies, including viral and buzz-oriented outreach efforts, to strengthen domain authority and search credibility.
8. Social Media & App Store Optimisation
Apply working knowledge of social media strategy and App Store Optimisation (Android and iTunes), alongside advanced proficiency in Google Analytics for performance tracking.
9. Client Reporting & Analytics
Own client reporting, analytics, KPI tracking, and performance metrics to evaluate campaign success and inform ongoing strategy refinement.
10. Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work collaboratively with web developers and creative teams to ensure development of standards-compliant sites with efficient page-load times and easy-to-maintain code.
AI TOOLS & TECHNOLOGIES USAGE
The Senior Manager – SEO will champion AI adoption across the SEO function and client engagements — embedding AI tools into team workflows to drive efficiency, scale, and sharper strategic decision-making.
AI Keyword & Intent Research
Use AI tools (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity) to accelerate keyword research, user-intent mapping, and head/long-tail term discovery across client portfolios at scale.
On-Page & Copy Optimisation
Apply AI writing and NLP tools to support professional copywriting workflows — optimising meta tags, content relevancy, semantic relevance, and keyword integration faster and more consistently.
Technical Audits & Site Analysis
Leverage AI-powered crawl and audit tools (Screaming Frog AI integrations, Botify) to accelerate site structure analysis, identify indexing issues, and prioritise technical recommendations.
Link Building & Outreach Intelligence
Use AI tools to identify high-authority link opportunities, draft outreach communications, and analyse backlink profiles for viral and buzz-oriented campaign planning.
AI-Assisted Client Reporting
Build automated reporting dashboards using AI-enhanced platforms (Google Analytics insights, Looker Studio with AI summaries) to deliver clear, data-driven client narratives efficiently.
Team Enablement & AI Training
Lead training initiatives to upskill the SEO team on AI-assisted workflows, prompt engineering, and emerging AI search features (Google AI Overviews, SGE) to keep client strategies future-ready.
EDUCATION AND/OR WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
✓ Hands-on experience in SEO Keyword Research, Google Analytics, Search Engine Marketing, Social Media, SEO Strategy, Content Marketing, Mobile App Optimisation, Digital Marketing, Online Marketing, Internet Marketing, and Client Communication.
✓ Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
✓ Excellent computer proficiency, including MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
✓ Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude and delivering exemplary client service.
✓ Ability to work independently and carry assignments through to completion within the parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
✓ Proven leadership experience managing and mentoring SEO teams in a client-facing, agency, or consulting environment.
✓ Working knowledge of AI-assisted SEO tools and workflows (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, MarketMuse, Clearscope, or similar) is highly desirable.
