They act as advocates for students, collaborating with teachers, parents, and administrators to create a supportive school environment. Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Individual and Group Counseling:School counselors provide confidential counseling to students on a variety of topics, including academic planning, social-emotional development, and career exploration. They may also facilitate group counseling sessions for students with shared concerns.
- Academic Advising and Planning:Counselors help students develop realistic academic goals, select appropriate courses, and prepare for college and career paths. They may administer assessments to gauge student aptitudes and interests.
- Behavioral Support and Intervention:Counselors identify and address behavioral issues that may be impacting a student's academic performance or social well-being. They may collaborate with teachers and administrators to develop individualized behavior plans.
- Crisis Response and Mental Health Support:School counselors are prepared to respond to crises, providing immediate support and referral to appropriate resources for students experiencing emotional or mental health challenges.
