About the Role
We are looking for a compassionate and skilled Chemotherapy Nurse to join our Oncology Day Care team. The candidate will be responsible for administering chemotherapy and supportive medications, monitoring patients during treatment, ensuring patient safety, maintaining accurate documentation, and providing patient education and counseling.
The role offers an opportunity to work closely with Medical Oncologists in a patient-centric cancer care environment focused on delivering affordable, high-quality oncology services.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
- Administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, blood products, and supportive medications as prescribed.
- Verify chemotherapy orders, patient identity, dosage calculations, and treatment protocols before administration.
- Assess patients before, during, and after chemotherapy administration.
- Monitor and promptly identify adverse drug reactions, infusion reactions, and treatment-related complications.
- Perform IV cannulation, central line care, PICC line care, and port management.
- Monitor vital signs and maintain treatment records accurately.
- Ensure safe handling, preparation, administration, and disposal of cytotoxic drugs.
- Assist oncologists during patient assessments and emergency situations.
- Coordinate laboratory investigations and treatment readiness checks.
Patient Care & Counseling
- Educate patients and caregivers regarding:
- Treatment plans
- Possible side effects
- Home care instructions
- Infection prevention measures
- Nutrition and hydration guidance
- Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and families.
- Assist in treatment adherence and follow-up coordination.
Quality & Compliance
- Follow infection control protocols and nursing standards.
- Maintain accurate electronic medical records (EMR).
- Ensure compliance with NABH, biomedical waste management, and patient safety guidelines.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
Coordination
- Work closely with Medical Oncologists, Pharmacists, Dietitians, Counsellors, and Operations teams.
- Coordinate appointment scheduling and patient flow within the day-care unit.
- Support inventory management of chemotherapy consumables and emergency medications.
Qualifications
Required
- B.Sc Nursing / GNM Nursing.
- Valid State Nursing Council Registration.
- Minimum 1 year clinical nursing experience.
Preferred
- Experience in Oncology, Chemotherapy Day Care, ICU, Emergency, or Medical Ward.
- Experience in chemotherapy administration and cytotoxic drug handling.
