ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Novagen is an early-stage engineering and product-development company building its internal R&D capability from the ground up.
We are looking for a hands-on Embedded Systems Engineer who can work across firmware development, hardware integration, debugging and basic software deployment. This role is suited to a go-getter who enjoys building working prototypes, solving practical problems and gradually taking greater technical ownership.
You will be an early member of the engineering team and will help establish the development practices, documentation and technical foundation on which the future R&D team will grow.
WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON
- Develop and maintain embedded firmware in C and C++.
- Integrate microcontrollers, sensors, actuators and communication interfaces.
- Build, deploy and test basic applications on embedded Linux platforms.
- Debug hardware-software integration problems.
- Support board bring-up, prototype testing and system validation.
- Prepare technical notes, interface documents, test results and version-controlled code.
- Work with internal engineers, suppliers and external technical specialists.
- Improve existing prototypes and convert experimental work into repeatable engineering solutions.
CORE SKILLS
- Two to three years of hands-on embedded-systems development experience.
- Strong fundamentals in C and working knowledge of C++.
- Experience with at least one MCU family such as STM32, ESP32, NXP, TI or Microchip.
- Understanding of GPIO, ADC, PWM, timers, interrupts and watchdogs.
- Hardware-interface experience using UART, I²C, SPI, CAN, USB or Ethernet.
- Basic embedded Linux experience on ARM, Raspberry Pi, SBC or System-on-Module platforms.
- Ability to build and deploy an application on a Linux target.
- Familiarity with the Linux command line, SSH, logs, processes and services.
- Git and basic Make/CMake experience.
- Ability to read schematics and datasheets.
- Practical use of a multimeter, oscilloscope or logic analyser.
- Experience completing at least one working embedded product or serious prototype.
GOOD-TO-HAVE SKILLS
- FreeRTOS or another RTOS.
- HAL, BSP, device-driver or bootloader development.
- Cross-compilation and toolchain configuration.
- Python or shell scripting.
- Basic systemd service creation and application deployment.
- Qt/QML application development.
- FFmpeg, GStreamer or V4L2 familiarity.
- Yocto or Buildroot exposure.
- SQLite or basic local data management.
- Sensor calibration, actuator control or PID fundamentals.
- Basic CI/CD or automated build experience.
You are not expected to possess every preferred skill. Strong fundamentals, practical project experience and the ability to learn are more important than matching every keyword.
THE PERSON WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- A go-getter who moves from discussion to working implementation.
- Comfortable working in an early-stage environment where every answer may not already be documented.
- Willing to investigate unfamiliar components, read datasheets and test possible solutions.
- Takes ownership of assigned work through completion and verification.
- Debugs systematically and supports conclusions with measurements.
- Communicates problems, mistakes and delays early.
- Writes clean, maintainable code and useful documentation.
- Works cooperatively and shares knowledge with the team.
- Respects confidentiality and company intellectual property.
- Wants a stable, long-term role with increasing technical responsibility.
- Interested in helping build the founding technical culture of Novagen’s R&D team.
