At Astr Defence, we design and manufacture advanced defence systems where precision, mechanism design and manufacturing execution come together.
We are looking for a CAD/CAM Engineer who can bridge the gap between mechanical design and advanced 4th-axis VMC machining.
If you enjoy solving complex machining problems, designing mechanisms, developing fixtures and generating optimized multi-axis toolpaths, this role is for you
WORKING HOURS
General Day Shift: 9:00 AM – 6:30 PM
SALARY
₹30,000 – ₹45,000 per month

YOUR ROLE
You will be involved in the complete engineering-to-manufacturing lifecycle of precision mechanism components:
Mechanism Product Design
- Model and refine complex 3D mechanical components and assemblies
- Assembly validation and interference checking
- Clearance, fitment and tolerance analysis
- Support prototype and NPD activities
4th-Axis CAM Programming
- Develop machining strategies for advanced 4th-axis VMC operations
- 3+1 axis indexing
- Continuous 4-axis machining
- Optimize tool orientation, machining sequence and cycle time
Fixture & Work-Holding Design
- Design customized jigs, fixtures and rotary work-holding solutions
- Develop practical setups for complex multi-orientation machining
- Improve repeatability and machining stability
Advanced Toolpath Generation
- Generate collision-free 3D toolpaths
- Machine complex surfaces and precision profiles
- Optimize feeds, speeds, stepovers and cutting strategies
- Focus on surface finish and cycle-time reduction
G-Code / M-Code
- Strong understanding of CNC programming
- Ability to read, troubleshoot and optimize G-code/M-code
- Make controlled program edits for machining optimization
Precision & Process Control
- Work with tight-tolerance precision components
- Understand tool wear, tool deflection and thermal effects
- Develop appropriate machining compensation strategies
- Coordinate with production and quality teams for process improvement
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Experience:
3–5 years of hands-on experience in a precision machine shop / tool room / CNC-VMC environment, preferably combining CAD and CAM.
CAD / CAM:
- Strong SolidWorks OR Autodesk Fusion 360
- 3D modelling & assembly
- CAM programming and toolpath generation
- 4th-axis machining experience
Machining Knowledge:
- Feeds, speeds & cutting parameters
- Tool selection and machining strategies
- Engineering plastics, aluminium, alloy steels and hardened materials
- VMC setup and troubleshooting
Engineering Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of mechanical mechanisms
- Engineering drawings
- GD&T
- Fits, tolerances and stack-up
- Precision manufacturing
Qualification:
- Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech – Mechanical / Production Engineering
- GTTC / NTTF candidates with strong practical experience are also encouraged to apply.
YOU WILL BE A STRONG FIT IF YOU CAN:

✅ Understand how it will actually be manufactured
✅ Design the fixture for it
✅ Plan the machining sequence
✅ Generate the 4th-axis toolpath
✅ Understand what the CNC controller will execute
✅ Troubleshoot machining issues on the shop floor

SELECTION PROCESS

- SolidWorks / Fusion 360 assembly analysis
- Mechanism understanding
- Engineering drawing & GD&T interpretation
- CAM strategy
- 4th-axis toolpath generation
- Machining knowledge
This is a practical engineering role — not a basic CAD operator position.
