A production engineer in the automobile industry oversees daily vehicle or auto-component manufacturing, optimizes assembly lines, solves technical faults, and enforces strict quality and safety standards to maximize output and minimize waste.
Key Responsibilities
- Line Management: Run daily shop-floor assembly or machining lines (CNC, VMC, welding, or painting) to meet production schedules.
- Process Optimization: Apply Lean, Kaizen, 5S, and Six Sigma to remove bottlenecks and improve cycle times.
- Quality & Testing: Track Statistical Process Control (SPC) and fix defects using root-cause analysis.
- Troubleshooting: Resolve equipment malfunctions quickly to reduce machine downtime.
- Team Coordination: Work with maintenance, quality control, and supply chain teams for smooth execution.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Diploma or B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Production, or Automotive Engineering.
- Technical Knowledge: Read engineering drawings, GD&T, and understand G-code/M-code if working with CNC machines.
- Core Tools: Familiarity with TPM, Poka-Yoke, and ERP/SAP software.
- Experience: 0 to 5+ years depending on junior or senior plant roles
