Purpose:
Working as part of our Technology development team, leads technology design/integration services including assessment of downstream OEM/Manufacturing needs.
Responsible for Plant layout and Piping layout preparation in Plant 3D. Capable to model equipment and it’s support structures. Experience in catalog and Spec creation in Plant 3D and to integrate with AutoCAD P&ID to develop intelligent 3D model. Responsible to generate piping isometrics.
Participate actively in interdisciplinary 3D model reviews at various stages (30%, 60%, 90%) to ensure plant and piping layout compliance with project requirements, safety, operability and maintainability.
Provide inputs and resolve layout / piping related issues during model review sessions with process, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and civil teams.
Key skills and experience include proven to deliver large-scale international projects. Known for aligning engineering strategies with regulatory standards, streamlining cross-functional workflows, and enhancing team performance through focused training and effective KPI management.
The role is based in Chennai; preference will be given to candidates already located in or willing to relocate to Chennai.
The Role
As a Principal Piping Designer with Worley, you will work closely with our existing team to deliver projects for our clients while continuing to develop your skills and experience etc.
- Assists business development activities by maintaining an up to date personal profile and resume. Builds positive working relationships with external parties such as the customer, suppliers, and contractors. Supports proposals by advising on the project execution strategy, estimating costs, writing proposal content, and presenting to customers. May be called upon to lead all or part of the technical proposal.
- Participates in budgeting and manage engineering operations to the budget. Controls engineering staffing levels, organizational structure, and monitors project discipline structures. Creates and maintains engineering guidelines. Ensures mentoring/training requirements are met. Manages the employee performance review process. Facilitates coverage of activities when people leave the team. Contributes to dispute resolution efforts. Ensures cross-discipline technical work and team activities meet all health, safety, environmental, and security requirements.
- Owns engineering technical competency and quality programs and oversees technical competency of those within the location. Ensures team member adherence to company processes, generally accepted engineering and design practices, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications. Supports global standardization of equipment specifications, drawings, and document templates and oversees use by the team. Assures the understanding of technical knowledge, legal requirements, and customer specifications whenever viable and lawful. Uses local/global standards to support technical excellence. Stewards discipline checking and technical peer reviews.
- Part of design/integration services for DAC Program including assessment of downstream OEM/Manufacturing needs.
- Gathers data from multiple sources and prepares analyses, calculations, etc. Assists with recommendations and helps create final documentation. Determines technical issues, defines alternate solutions, establishes pros/cons for multiple solutions, and makes recommendations to support official project documents such as technical queries, technical deviations, etc. Creates final documentation incorporating all relevant information and pursues internal authorization. May review similar documentation to assist others and reviews/authorizes work done by direct reports.
- Seeks input from knowledgeable sources, participates in constructability, operability, and maintainability reviews, and incorporates requirements into design. May work with site personnel to resolve issues. May create plans or documents that supports construction, testing, commissioning, operations, maintenance, or decommissioning. May provide or lead on-site support for construction, commissioning, or turn over.
About You
To be considered for this role it is envisaged you will possess the following attributes:
- Fully Proficient Individual Contributors possessing full knowledge of the principles and practices within a technical/professional discipline requiring extensive academic preparation or equivalent work experience.
- Awarded a 2- or 3-year technical diploma with discipline specific training or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Trained in leadership and project execution. Will be actively licensed with a local governing body where required by law.
- Strong Knowledge in Plant layout and piping design principles. Hands-on experience with Autodesk Plant 3D for 3D modelling, isometrics extraction, piping list and BOM generation. Ability to prepare and manage piping specifications and catalogues within Plant 3D. Familiarity with applicable industry codes and standards for piping design.
- Certification or advanced training in Autodesk Plant 3D Exposure to clash detection, model review tools and interdisciplinary coordination in 3D environments. Familiarity with international piping codes and standards (ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, ANSI, ISO, etc.,) Experience in Material selection, piping stress analysis basics and integration with stress teams. Knowledge of other design tools like Navisworks, AutoCAD etc., for plant layout review. Prior involvement in EPC projects in the power, process or environmental sectors
- Requires 10+ years of relevant discipline experience. Has a strong background in discipline work and a competent understanding of regulations, codes, manufacturing standards, and industry standard practices. Skilled in estimating project costs and writing proposal content.
- Experience working in project leadership. Specialized expertise in one or more areas of regulations, codes, manufacturing standards, and industry standard practices.
- Empowered to make responsible decisions within the limits of company practices. Difficult, complex or unusual decisions will be referred to the Location Manager of Engineering, or Discipline Manager.
- 3A/3B - Operates with broad management authority. Limited only by general objectives and policies of the organization. Work is reviewed to ensure company direction meets company vision and mission.
- 4A/4B - Works with self-initiated interaction with supervisor and self-initiated technical guidance. Influence over duties. Receives administrative direction based on organization policies and objectives. Work is reviewed to ensure conformity with policy and for coordination of other company functions or groups.
- Supervision Authority Responsible for assigning work, reviewing deliverables.
Other Qualifications:
- Effectively communicate and present complex proposals and reports to direct line manager. Maintains clear, Professional communication with suppliers, contractors and stakeholders.
- Competent in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams. Can navigate intranet pages, conduct searches, and retrieve information. Can organize information from many sources and retain as per the prescribed format and policies. Will be fully proficient in specialty design tools, analytics and modelling, and cross-discipline data centric methods.
- Autodesk plant 3D – 3D modelling, Plant and piping Layout, Isometric and Layout extraction and BOM generation. Proficiency in Piping specification and catalogue creation within Plant 3D AutoCAD – Preparation and editing of 2D drawings.
- Basic Knowledge of MS Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for documentation, reports and data handling.
- Advance Steel, Navisworks for model review, clash detection and coordination.
- Assume hands-on management and implementation of all relevant company HSE requirements. Drive Safe and Sustainable engineering outcomes throughout the asset lifecycle via the application of SEAL.
