The Senior Gold Refinery Chemist is responsible for supervising gold refining processes, ensuring consistent high purity and recovery, and providing technical leadership to junior chemists and laboratory staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and execute gold refining processes (aqua regia, chlorination, electrolysis, precipitation)
- Oversee fire assay, wet chemical analysis, and instrumental testing of gold and by-products
- Ensure gold purity levels of up to 99.99% and optimal metal recovery
- Lead troubleshooting of process deviations and implement corrective actions
- Review and validate laboratory results, reports, and metal accounting data
- Train, mentor, and supervise junior chemists and technicians
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards
- Support audits, certifications, and continuous improvement initiatives
Requirements
- Degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering
- 5–7 years’ experience in gold refining or precious metals processing
- Strong hands-on expertise in gold chemistry and refining techniques
- Leadership experience in a refinery or metallurgical laboratory environment
- Excellent analytical, documentation, and problem-solving skills
