Job Description: Biomass Procurement & Supply Chain Officer
Location: Krishnagar, Nadia District, West Bengal
Position: Full-Time | Field-Based
Reporting To: Project Manager / Operations Head
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Biomass Procurement & Supply Chain Officer to establish and manage a reliable supply network of agricultural biomass including jute sticks, rice husk, paddy straw, mustard stalks, maize residue, and other crop residues for our Biochar & Carbon Removal Project in West Bengal.
The role requires extensive field engagement with farmers, aggregators, rice mills, transporters, Gram Panchayats, and Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) to ensure a consistent and cost-effective biomass supply.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage a strong procurement network across Nadia and nearby districts.
- Build long-term relationships with farmers, farias, aggregators, rice mills, transporters, and FPOs.
- Source agricultural residues directly from villages and institutional suppliers.
- Conduct village outreach programs encouraging farmers to monetize crop residues instead of burning them.
- Ensure quality procurement by monitoring moisture content and contamination.
- Coordinate transportation, storage, and seasonal stock planning.
- Maintain procurement records, inventory, and cost reports.
- Prepare procurement forecasts and supplier performance reports.
Desired Candidate Profile
- Experience: 10–15 years in agricultural procurement, biomass sourcing, rural supply chain, agribusiness, or raw material procurement.
- Strong network within Nadia and surrounding districts is preferred.
- Ability to negotiate with farmers, traders, rice mills, transporters, and government agencies.
- Willingness to travel extensively across rural West Bengal.
- Degree in Agriculture, Supply Chain, Agribusiness, or related field is preferred. Relevant field experience will be given equal consideration.
