Purpose of the Job
To operate the Plano Milling Machine safely and efficiently for machining large fabricated and cast components as per engineering drawings, quality standards, and production schedules.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up jobs on the Plano Milling Machine as per process sheet.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and machining requirements.
- Select and install suitable cutting tools, fixtures, and clamps.
- Perform rough and finish milling operations to specified dimensions.
- Ensure machine alignment and proper workpiece clamping before machining.
- Measure components using Vernier Caliper, Micrometer, Height Gauge, Dial Indicator, and other measuring instruments.
- Maintain dimensional accuracy and required surface finish.
- Conduct first-piece inspection and in-process inspection.
- Record production details and machine parameters.
- Follow production targets and delivery schedules.
- Perform routine machine cleaning and daily maintenance.
- Report machine abnormalities, tool breakage, or quality issues immediately.
- Follow 5S, safety rules, and company procedures.
- Minimize material wastage and improve machining efficiency.
Skills Required
- Knowledge of Plano Milling Machine operation.
- Ability to read engineering drawings.
- Knowledge of machining parameters and cutting tools.
- Knowledge of GD&T is preferred.
- Good understanding of measuring instruments.
- Basic preventive maintenance knowledge.
- Safe material handling using cranes.
Qualification
- ITI Machinist / Fitter or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
Experience
- 3–8 years of experience operating Plano Milling Machines.
- Experience machining large fabricated, forged, or cast components is preferred.
