A Fleet Manager for Transport oversees all aspects of a company’s vehicle operations, including procurement, maintenance, safety, compliance, and driver management. They optimize routes and fuel consumption, manage budgets to reduce costs, and utilize technology like telematics to maximize asset utilization, ensure uptime, and ensure regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintenance & Operations: Direct preventive maintenance, repairs, and vehicle inspections to minimize downtime.
- Driver & Asset Management: Recruit, train, and manage drivers; handle scheduling, routing, and real-time tracking.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure adherence to safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, ELD), manage licensing, and oversee vehicle safety checks.
- Cost Control: Monitor fuel consumption, analyze vehicle performance data, and manage vehicle procurement/disposal.
Skills Required:
- Technical: Proficiency with telematics, GPS tracking systems, and fleet management software.
- Analytical: Strong ability to analyze data to optimize efficiency.
- Leadership & Communication: Ability to lead drivers, coordinate with technicians, and manage stakeholder relationships.
- Organizational: Exceptional multitasking skills to handle vehicle breakdowns, scheduling, and compliance simultaneously.
- Experience in the transportation or logistics industry (often 2+ years).
- Knowledge of HGV/commercial vehicle regulations.
- Degrees in logistics, supply chain management, or business are often preferred but experience is paramount
