Job Summary:
The Cinema Technician is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of cinema projection and audio systems, ensuring a seamless and high-quality viewing experience for all patrons. This role includes regular maintenance, emergency troubleshooting, and support of both digital and mechanical projection equipment, as well as associated cinema technology systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain digital cinema projection systems (DCP, 2K/4K projectors, etc.)
- Monitor and adjust sound systems (Dolby, DTS, 5.1/7.1 surround setups) to ensure optimal audio quality.
- Perform regular preventative maintenance on all technical equipment, including projectors, audio systems, servers, and networking hardware.
- Troubleshoot and repair technical faults during screenings with minimal disruption.
- Upload, schedule, and test film content (DCP ingestion and playlist creation).
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
- Work with third-party vendors for repairs, upgrades, and system installations.
- Maintain technical logs, incident reports, and maintenance records.
- Support live event setups, including satellite feeds, streaming, and live Q&A events.
- Assist with lighting, automation systems, and theatre environmental controls if needed.
- Train junior staff or projectionists as required.
Skills & Qualifications:
Essential:
- Strong technical understanding of digital cinema projection and audio systems.
- Experience with server-based systems (e.g., Dolby, Doremi, GDC, or similar).
- Familiarity with content management systems (DCP ingestion, KDMs, SPLs).
- Ability to troubleshoot AV/network/hardware issues efficiently.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
