Job Description: Mother & Baby Care Nurse (12-Hour Shift)
Position Title: Mother and Baby Care Nurse
Shift: 12 hours (Day/Night as per roster)
Department: Labour Ward / Gynaecology Ward / Baby Care Unit / Pediatric Care
Role Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled nurse to provide comprehensive care to mothers and newborns across labour, gynaecology, baby care, and pediatric units. The ideal candidate will be experienced, hands-on, empathetic, and committed to maintaining the highest standards of infection control and patient safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care in the Labour Ward, assisting with normal deliveries and monitoring mothers during labour
- Deliver post-natal and pre-natal care in the Gynaecology Ward
- Attend to newborns in the Baby Care Unit, including routine checks, weight monitoring, and warmth/temperature regulation
- Support Pediatric Care needs for infants and young children as required
- Assist and educate mothers on proper baby feeding techniques (breastfeeding and bottle feeding)
- Administer first aid promptly in emergency situations for mother or baby
- Strictly follow and maintain infection control protocols (hand hygiene, sterilization, PPE usage, waste disposal)
- Monitor vital signs of mother and baby and report any abnormalities to the doctor/senior nurse
- Provide health education to mothers and families on:
- Newborn care and hygiene
- Nutrition for mother and baby
- Vaccination schedules
- Warning signs/complications to watch for
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation
- Provide emotional support and reassurance to mothers and families with empathy and patience
- Coordinate with doctors, other nurses, and support staff for smooth patient care
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: GNM / B.Sc Nursing / Diploma in Nursing (or equivalent recognized qualification)
- License: Valid Nursing Council Registration
- Experience: Prior hands-on experience in Labour Ward, Gynaecology Ward, Baby Care Unit, and Pediatric Care preferred
- Skills Required:
- Sound knowledge of labour and delivery procedures
- Newborn and infant care expertise
- Breastfeeding/feeding support techniques
- First aid and emergency response skills
- Strong understanding of infection control standards
- Good communication skills for health education and counselling
