GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Julius Baer is advancing its digital agenda across Asia, leveraging technology to strengthen client service, operational resilience, and sustainable growth. As part of this ambition, we are seeking a skilled and motivated Head of Digital Transformation India to lead our engineering team in Chennai.
This leadership role is central to ensuring high-quality, compliant, and timely delivery of technology initiatives while developing a capable and engaged engineering workforce. Reporting to the Head of Digital Transformation Asia, you will oversee all delivery and people aspects of the India-based engineering unit, acting as a key enabler of regional transformation outcomes.
With a strong focus on governance, collaboration, and team development, this position demands a leader who can balance operational rigour with strategic insight—driving delivery excellence within one of the world’s most respected wealth management institutions.
KEY FEATURES OF THE POSITION
Delivery Leadership
· Oversee end-to-end delivery performance of the India engineering team, ensuring alignment with project timelines, business commitments, and quality standards.
· Implement and govern structured delivery processes across agile and iterative workstreams to ensure predictability, transparency, and continuous improvement.
· Proactively identify and resolve delivery impediments, coordinating cross-functionally to manage dependencies and resource constraints.
· Monitor key delivery metrics—including on-time delivery, milestone achievement, release stability, and team velocity—and report progress to senior stakeholders.
· Prepare the organisation for scale by strengthening delivery frameworks, enhancing team capabilities, and institutionalising best practices.
Technical Oversight
· Provide expert guidance on software engineering practices, system design, and solution implementation in alignment with group technology standards.
· Ensure engineering outputs adhere to established architecture principles, integration patterns, and platform roadmaps.
· Promote consistency and maturity in development processes, including source code management, testing coverage, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment automation.
· Collaborate with central technology functions to evaluate emerging tools, methodologies, and operating models that enhance delivery efficiency and resilience.
· Support talent development through mentoring, performance feedback, and identification of skilling needs within the engineering community.
People Management
· Lead, coach, and inspire a high-performing engineering team in Chennai, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
· Oversee the full employee lifecycle, including onboarding, role integration, career development planning, performance management, and offboarding.
· Conduct regular performance reviews in line with the Bank’s appraisal processes, providing constructive feedback, setting clear objectives, and identifying growth opportunities.
· Support succession planning and talent development, recognising high potential individuals and preparing them for increased responsibility.
· Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the team, ensuring fair treatment, open communication, and psychological safety.
· Champion the firm’s values and behavioural expectations, addressing conduct and performance issues promptly and in accordance with HR policies.
Client & Stakeholder Management
· Serve as the principal representative for the India engineering function, building trusted relationships with regional and global delivery partners.
· Align closely with IT, Product, and Delivery teams to ensure cohesive execution across portfolios and functional boundaries.
· Communicate delivery status, risks, and strategic updates clearly and confidently to diverse audiences, including senior leadership.
· Facilitate joint planning sessions, governance meetings, and prioritisation forums to balance competing demands and optimise outcomes.
· Champion a collaborative, solution-oriented culture that values accountability, transparency, and client focus.
Regulatory & Risk Management
· Safeguard delivery integrity by enforcing compliance with the Bank’s Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), change control, and release management policies.
· Embed strong risk and control disciplines within engineering workflows, ensuring traceability, audit readiness, and adherence to internal controls.
· Partner actively with Technology Risk, Information Security, and Internal Audit to address findings, implement action plans, and strengthen control posture.
· Ensure all developments meet regulatory expectations pertinent to financial services, particularly regarding data protection, access management, and resilient operations.
· Maintain robust documentation practices and lead preparedness for audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews.
SKILLS REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION
We are looking for a proven technology leader with substantial experience in delivering complex transformations within structured, risk-sensitive environments—ideally within financial services or private banking.
· At least 15-20 years of progressive experience in technology delivery, with significant exposure to digital transformation programmes.
· Minimum of 8-10 years in a leadership capacity, managing teams of engineers or developers in hybrid (Agile/Waterfall) environments.
· Solid understanding of software delivery governance, release management, and technology risk principles.
· Demonstrated ability to lead through change, build high-performing teams, and operate effectively in matrixed organisations.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with fluency in English (written and spoken).
· Background in wealth management or financial services is highly desirable.
· Relevant qualifications in Computer Science, Engineering, or Business; postgraduate degrees or certifications (e.g., PMP, SAFe, PRINCE2, ITIL) are considered a plus.
