Position: Senior Costing Engineer
Department: Costing
Reporting To: Director
Location: Chakan, Pune
Purpose of the Role
To ensure accurate product and project costing, prepare competitive quotations, monitor project-wise profitability, control manufacturing costs, and provide financial insights to support business decisions and improve overall profitability.
Key Responsibilities1. Product Costing & Estimation
- Prepare detailed product cost estimates based on customer drawings, BOM, specifications, and manufacturing processes.
- Calculate material, fabrication, machining, painting, assembly, logistics, and overhead costs.
- Prepare costing sheets for RFQs and customer quotations.
- Review and update standard costing data periodically.
2. Project-wise Profit & Loss (P&L)
- Prepare and monitor Project-wise Profit & Loss (P&L) statements from order receipt to project closure.
- Compare estimated cost with actual cost and analyze variances.
- Monitor project profitability, contribution margins, and budget utilization.
- Prepare monthly project profitability reports for management review.
- Recommend corrective actions to improve project margins.
3. Cost Control
- Analyze material, labour, machine hour, subcontracting, and overhead costs.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities through value engineering and process improvements.
- Monitor cost variances and recommend corrective actions.
- Support annual budgeting and forecasting activities.
4. Commercial & Business Support
- Support Sales and Business Development teams with commercial costing for new enquiries.
- Participate in customer and supplier commercial discussions.
- Evaluate commercial feasibility of new projects.
- Provide margin analysis before order acceptance.
5. Cross-functional Coordination
- Coordinate with Design, Production, PPC, Purchase, Quality, Stores, Finance, and Sales departments.
- Ensure accurate BOMs and manufacturing routings for costing purposes.
- Support new product development with cost analysis.
6. MIS & Reporting
- Prepare weekly and monthly MIS reports on costing and profitability.
- Maintain costing databases and historical cost records.
- Develop dashboards for project profitability and cost performance.
- Present costing reports to senior management.
Qualification
- B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
- MBA (Finance/Operations) preferred.
Experience
- 10–12 years of experience in Costing, Estimation, Commercial, or Project Cost Control.
- Experience in Heavy Fabrication, Trailer Manufacturing, Automotive, Capital Equipment, or Engineering Manufacturing is preferred.
