Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Site Engineer – Civil / Construction for an upcoming large-scale healthcare project in Muvattupuzha.
The candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day execution, supervision, coordination, quality, productivity, and progress of civil, structural, architectural, and finishing works at site. The role requires strong site execution experience, technical knowledge, contractor coordination skills, and the ability to ensure that construction is carried out in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and project schedules.
Candidates with experience in hospitals, healthcare facilities, institutional buildings, hotels, commercial developments, or other large-scale building projects will be preferred.
Key Responsibilities1. Site Execution
- Supervise and manage day-to-day construction activities at site.
- Execute works strictly as per approved GFC drawings, specifications, BOQ, method statements, and project requirements.
- Plan daily and weekly site activities in coordination with the Project Manager and Construction Manager.
- Ensure smooth sequencing of civil, structural, architectural, MEP interface, and finishing activities.
- Monitor manpower, materials, machinery, and equipment deployment.
- Ensure planned productivity and achievement of project milestones.
2. Civil & Structural Works
Supervise and coordinate:
- Site setting out
- Excavation and earthworks
- PCC works
- Foundations
- RCC works
- Reinforcement
- Formwork
- Concrete works
- Structural steel works, where applicable
- Masonry
- Plastering
- Waterproofing
- Roofing
- External development works
- Drainage and infrastructure works
Ensure dimensional accuracy, line, level, alignment, and workmanship at every stage.
3. Architectural & Finishing Works
Supervise execution of:
- Flooring and tiling
- Granite and stone works
- Wall finishes
- Painting
- False ceilings
- Joinery
- Doors and windows
- Aluminium and glazing works
- Façade works
- Partition systems
- Interior finishes
- Toilet and wet-area finishes
- External paving and landscape-related civil works
Ensure that finished works meet approved samples, mock-ups, drawings, and quality standards.
4. Drawing Review & Site Coordination
- Study architectural, structural, MEP, and specialist drawings before execution.
- Identify discrepancies, clashes, missing details, or constructability issues.
- Raise RFIs and technical queries through the appropriate project channels.
- Coordinate with consultants, architects, structural engineers, MEP engineers, and contractors.
- Ensure latest approved drawings are used at site.
- Maintain proper drawing revision control.
5. MEP Coordination
Coordinate civil and architectural works with:
- HVAC systems
- Electrical systems
- Plumbing
- Fire-fighting
- Fire alarm systems
- Medical gas systems
- ELV systems
- BMS
- Lift systems
- Medical equipment requirements
Ensure sleeves, openings, inserts, shafts, service routes, and builder's works are provided correctly before concreting or closing finishes.
6. Healthcare Project Coordination
Give special attention to construction requirements in areas such as:
- Operation Theatres
- ICUs
- Emergency Department
- Diagnostic Areas
- Laboratories
- Patient Rooms
- Wards
- CSSD
- Pharmacy
- Clean and controlled areas
- Medical gas rooms
- Service and utility areas
Coordinate architectural finishes and services to ensure healthcare functionality, hygiene, safety, and maintenance requirements are achieved.
7. Quality Control
- Ensure all works comply with approved specifications and quality standards.
- Coordinate inspections with the QA/QC team.
- Check reinforcement, shuttering, dimensions, levels, and embedded items before concrete pours.
- Monitor concrete placement, vibration, finishing, and curing.
- Inspect masonry, plastering, waterproofing, flooring, and finishing activities.
- Ensure defective or non-conforming work is corrected promptly.
- Prevent rework through proper pre-execution checks.
- Coordinate WIRs, checklists, and inspection approvals before subsequent work proceeds.
8. Quantity & Material Control
- Estimate daily and short-term material requirements.
- Verify quantities for site execution.
- Coordinate timely material requests with procurement and stores.
- Monitor material consumption and minimize wastage.
- Check incoming materials for compliance with approved specifications.
- Maintain proper records of material usage where required.
- Assist the QS and commercial team with site measurements and quantity verification.
9. Contractor & Subcontractor Management
- Supervise contractors and subcontractors assigned to specific work packages.
- Monitor contractor manpower and productivity.
- Ensure contractors follow approved construction methodology.
- Resolve day-to-day site coordination issues.
- Check contractor work before consultant/client inspections.
- Report inadequate manpower, poor productivity, or quality concerns to management.
- Ensure proper coordination between multiple subcontractors working in the same area.
10. Planning & Progress Monitoring
- Prepare daily and weekly work plans.
- Monitor actual site progress against approved schedules.
- Identify constraints affecting progress.
- Coordinate required drawings, materials, manpower, and equipment in advance.
- Assist planning engineers in updating progress information.
- Participate in weekly progress meetings.
- Implement recovery measures where activities are behind schedule.
11. Site Measurements
- Verify completed quantities at site.
- Record measurements for contractor bills where required.
- Check executed quantities against drawings and BOQs.
- Support quantity surveyors in joint measurement and certification activities.
- Maintain proper measurement records for concealed works before closure.
12. Safety
- Ensure site activities comply with approved HSE procedures.
- Coordinate with safety officers before starting high-risk activities.
- Ensure use of required PPE.
- Monitor safe working practices for:
- Work at height
- Scaffolding
- Excavation
- Lifting activities
- Electrical works
- Hot works
- Formwork
- Concrete works
- Stop unsafe activities and immediately report serious safety concerns.
13. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate records including:
- Daily Progress Reports
- Site activity records
- Labour reports
- Concrete pour records
- Inspection requests
- Material requests
- Site instructions
- RFIs
- Drawing registers
- Measurement records
- Progress photographs
- Snag records
Submit timely progress and issue reports to the Project Manager / Construction Manager.
14. Snagging & Handover
- Conduct internal inspections before consultant/client inspections.
- Prepare snag and punch lists.
- Coordinate rectification of defects.
- Monitor completion of outstanding works.
- Support testing, commissioning, and handover activities.
- Verify as-built conditions and assist preparation of as-built drawings.
- Ensure assigned areas are completed to required standards before handover.
Qualification Requirements
- B.E./B.Tech in Civil Engineering preferred.
- Diploma in Civil Engineering may be considered for candidates with strong relevant experience.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in building construction and site execution.
- Proven experience in managing civil, structural, architectural, and finishing works.
- Experience in large-scale commercial, institutional, hotel, hospital, or healthcare projects preferred.
- Hospital construction experience will be a strong advantage.
