About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and highly responsible Medical Director to lead the clinical operations of our upcoming polyclinic. The Medical Director will provide clinical leadership, oversee medical quality and patient safety, support physician and healthcare professional recruitment, and ensure that the clinic operates in accordance with applicable healthcare regulations, professional standards, and organizational policies.
This role is ideal for a senior physician who combines strong clinical judgment with leadership, operational, and team-management capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Clinical Leadership
Provide overall medical leadership for the polyclinic.
Establish and maintain high standards of clinical care and patient safety.
Develop and review clinical protocols, guidelines, SOPs, and treatment pathways.
Ensure appropriate evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, referral, and follow-up of patients.
Promote evidence-based and patient-centered medical practices.
Review clinical incidents, complaints, and adverse events and recommend corrective actions.
2. Physician & Clinical Team Management
Recruit, credential, onboard, and supervise physicians and other clinical professionals.
Establish appropriate clinical privileges and scope-of-practice requirements.
Monitor provider performance, documentation quality, and adherence to clinical protocols.
Conduct periodic clinical performance reviews.
Support continuing medical education, training, and professional development.
Foster a collaborative and ethical clinical culture.
3. Quality & Patient Safety
Implement clinical quality assurance and continuous improvement programs.
Monitor key clinical quality indicators and patient outcomes.
Establish processes for infection prevention and control.
Ensure appropriate medication management and patient safety practices.
Lead clinical audits and periodic medical record reviews.
Develop processes for handling medical emergencies and clinical escalation.
4. Regulatory & Compliance Oversight
Ensure clinical operations comply with applicable healthcare laws, regulations, and professional standards.
Work with management on licensing, accreditation, inspections, and regulatory requirements.
Maintain appropriate clinical documentation and medical records standards.
Support compliance with privacy, confidentiality, informed consent, and patient rights requirements.
Coordinate with legal, compliance, and administrative teams on clinical regulatory matters.
5. Polyclinic Operations
Work closely with the operations team to optimize patient flow and clinical workflows.
Help determine appropriate staffing levels, clinical schedules, and service capacity.
Participate in decisions regarding medical equipment, diagnostic services, pharmacy, laboratory, and other clinical resources.
Support the development and launch of new clinical services.
Help establish referral networks with hospitals, specialists, laboratories, pharmacies, and other healthcare providers.
6. Patient Experience
Promote a patient-first culture throughout the organization.
Review significant patient complaints and clinical concerns.
Ensure appropriate communication between providers, patients, and families.
Develop initiatives to improve patient satisfaction, continuity of care, and clinical outcomes.
7. Strategic & Management Responsibilities
Work with the Founder/Management Team to develop the clinic's clinical strategy.
Provide medical input into business planning, service expansion, and operational decisions.
Participate in budgeting and planning for clinical departments.
Represent the polyclinic in appropriate professional and healthcare forums.
Build relationships with physicians, hospitals, specialists, laboratories, pharmacies, and healthcare organizations.
Required Qualifications
MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
Valid medical registration/license in the applicable jurisdiction.
8+ years of clinical experience, preferably with experience in hospital, clinic, or multispecialty healthcare environments.
Previous experience in a medical leadership, department-head, clinical administration, or Medical Director role is preferred.
Strong understanding of clinical governance, patient safety, and healthcare quality.
Experience managing physicians and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
Strong communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
Ability to work effectively with both clinical and non-clinical leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
MD/MS/DNB or equivalent postgraduate qualification.
Experience in multispecialty clinics or polyclinic operations.
Experience with healthcare accreditation and regulatory compliance.
Experience developing clinical SOPs and quality-management systems.
Familiarity with electronic medical records and digital healthcare systems.
Experience with clinical audits, quality improvement, and patient safety programs.
MBA/MHA/MPH or healthcare-management qualification is an advantage.
Pay: ₹5,000.00 - ₹15,000.00 per month
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Sholinganallur, Chennai, Tamil Nadu: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Preferred)
