Job purpose:
The Principal Engineer – PC-Topp provides technical leadership for the PC-Topp product, ensuring its stability, maintainability, and continued evolution while supporting business and customer objectives. The role is responsible for driving the technical direction of the product, leading the resolution of complex engineering challenges, and ensuring high-quality software delivery across the product lifecycle.
The role serves as the primary technical authority for PC-Topp, collaborating with Product Management, Quality Assurance, Customer Support, and other engineering teams to deliver customer value, manage technical risk, and guide future modernization initiatives.
Core responsibilities:
- Own the technical direction and architecture of the PC-Topp product.
- Lead the design, development, and delivery of complex product enhancements and customer-driven solutions.
- Analyze and resolve critical technical issues, performing root cause analysis and implementing long-term corrective actions.
- Provide technical leadership across the product, ensuring adherence to engineering standards, coding practices, and architectural principles.
- Collaborate with Product Management to evaluate technical feasibility, estimate effort, and define implementation strategies for roadmap initiatives.
- Mentor and coach engineers through technical guidance, code reviews, and knowledge sharing.
- Identify technical risks, dependencies, and areas of technical debt, and develop mitigation plans.
- Support customer escalations by providing deep technical expertise and timely resolution of complex issues.
- Contribute to release planning, technical documentation, and continuous improvement of development processes.
- Promote automation, software quality, and engineering best practices throughout the development lifecycle.

Required experience and skills:
- 12+ years of software engineering experience, including significant experience with enterprise or legacy applications.
- Demonstrated experience leading technical design and architecture decisions.
- Proven experience mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership across teams.
- Experience working directly with Product Management, QA, and Customer Support to deliver customer-focused solutions.
- Experience supporting mission-critical production systems and resolving high-impact customer issues.
- Expert-level programming experience in C and C++.
- Strong experience with .NET Framework and object-oriented design.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server.
- Experience working with ISAM-based databases or similar legacy data storage technologies.
- Experience developing and maintaining Crystal Reports.
- Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and application performance optimization.
- Experience with source control systems such as Git and modern software development practices.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and DevOps practices.
- Experience with ERP, MIS, manufacturing, or packaging industry software.
