Key Responsibilities
- Supervise day-to-day operations of the hospital pharmacy.
- Dispense medicines accurately against valid prescriptions and ensure appropriate labeling and instructions.
- Verify prescriptions for dosage, drug interactions, contraindications, and potential medication errors.
- Ensure proper storage of medicines as per manufacturer and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor stock levels, expiry dates, batch numbers, and near-expiry medicines.
- Maintain proper records of medicine receipts, issues, returns, shortages, and damages.
- Manage inventory and ensure timely procurement of medicines and pharmacy consumables.
- Maintain records for controlled, restricted, and high-risk medicines as applicable.
- Ensure compliance with applicable pharmacy laws, hospital policies, and statutory requirements.
- Coordinate with doctors, nursing staff, purchase, stores, billing, and other hospital departments.
- Guide and supervise junior pharmacists and pharmacy assistants.
- Prepare duty rosters and allocate responsibilities to pharmacy staff.
- Ensure proper documentation and maintenance of pharmacy registers and records.
- Monitor refrigerator and cold-chain temperature records for temperature-sensitive medicines.
- Identify and report medication-related discrepancies, adverse drug reactions, and medication errors as per hospital policy.
- Support implementation of medication-safety practices and quality-improvement initiatives.
- Participate in internal audits, inspections, accreditation activities, and pharmacy quality programs.
- Ensure cleanliness, hygiene, safety, and proper organization of the pharmacy.
- Train and guide pharmacy staff regarding SOPs, dispensing procedures, storage, and medication safety.
- Ensure timely availability of emergency and essential medicines.
- Handle patient and department queries related to medicines professionally.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Pharmacy Manager or Hospital Management.
Educational Qualification
- B.Pharm / M.Pharm from a recognized institution.
- Must possess a valid registration with the respective State Pharmacy Council, as applicable.
