Job Summary
We are looking for a hands-on Application Engineer (Ready-Mix Concrete) to oversee end-to-end site concrete operations. In this role, you will be the technical lead responsible for site readiness before the pour, managing mix performance and placement during execution, and providing critical post-pour inspection, testing, and troubleshooting. You will serve as the core technical link between our batching plant and site project managers.
Key Responsibilities Across the Pouring Lifecycle1. Pre-Pouring Services & Site Preparation
- Site Inspections & Logistics Review: Visit client sites prior to placement to assess pump line setups, transit mixer access routes, boom pump positioning, and site pour rates.
- Mix Selection & Submittals: Review structural specifications and select or design the appropriate mix formulation (e.g., slump retention requirements, ambient temperature adjustments, retarded or accelerated settings).
- Mock-ups & Trial Batches: Conduct trial mixes, pumpability trials, and site mock-ups for high-specification or high-volume pours to obtain client/consultant approval.
- Pre-Pour Briefing: Coordinate with site engineers, contractors, and batching plant dispatch teams to establish logistics plans, pour sequences, and emergency standby protocols.
2. On-Site Pouring Execution
- In-Situ Quality Checks: Perform incoming concrete testing on arrival (slump/flow test, concrete temperature, air content, density) before discharge into the pump hopper.
- Workability & Flow Management: Monitor and maintain concrete workability during long pump lines, extended travel times, or high-ambient-temperature conditions using site-added admixtures under strict technical guidelines.
- Placement & Compaction Supervision: Oversee concrete pumping, placing, and vibration techniques to prevent segregation, cold joints, honeycomb formation, or bleeding.
- Specimen Casting: Ensure correct sampling and casting of standard test cubes/cylinders on-site following standardized sampling procedures.
3. Post-Pouring Services & Technical Support
- Curing & Early-Age Monitoring: Advise site teams on proper curing methods (ponding, membrane curing, steam curing) and early-age thermal/shrinkage cracking prevention strategies.
- Strength Tracking & Compliance Verification: Track 3-day, 7-day, and 28-day compressive strength results; issue official technical test reports to consultants and project leaders.
- Post-Pour Inspections & Troubleshooting: Conduct post-strip visual inspections for surface finish quality; investigate non-conformances (e.g., low 28-day strength, cracking, structural honeycombing) and deliver formal root-cause analysis (RCA) reports.
- Client Sign-off & Continuous Improvement: Obtain post-pour technical feedback from contractors, log site consumption metrics, and update plant mix designs based on actual site performance.
Key Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Diploma / Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, or Concrete Technology.
- Experience: 3–6 years of site-facing technical experience with an RMC supplier, main contractor, or site QA/QC department.
- Technical Expertise:
- Deep practical knowledge of concrete rheology, pumping mechanics, and chemical admixture reactions during pouring.
- Thorough understanding of relevant concrete testing standards (e.g., IS 456 / IS 516 / IS 1199, or local equivalents like ASTM / EN).
- Hands-on ability to troubleshoot slump loss, bleeding, pump line blockages, and setting irregularities in real-time on-site.
- Core Competencies:
- High crisis-management agility for rapid decision-making during high-volume pours.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to direct site labor, coordinate with plant operators, and communicate with consultants.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours corresponding to site pouring schedules (night pours, early morning pours, weekend pours).
