A hospital pharmacy assistant supports pharmacists by preparing, packaging, and distributing medications, managing inventory, and maintaining records under supervision. They ensure accuracy in filling medication trolleys, process prescriptions, and restock supplies, contributing to safe patient care in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Dispensing & Preparation: Assist pharmacists in filling prescriptions, counting tablets, labelling bottles, and preparing or packaging medications, including IV solutions.
- Inventory Management: Monitor stock levels, receive inventory, restock shelves, and identify expired medications.
- Distribution: Deliver medications to nursing stations or directly to patients.
- Administrative Tasks: Maintain patient records, manage prescription files, and process billing, often using specialized pharmacy software.
- Safety & Maintenance: Keep the pharmacy clean, organized, and adhere to strict safety protocols and legal regulations.
Key Requirements and Skills
- Education: 12th / Dilploma / ITI
- Attention to Detail: Critical for ensuring accuracy in medication preparation to ensure patient safety.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in using computers and pharmacy software is an added advantage.
- Communication: Strong interpersonal skills for collaborating with pharmacists and nursing staff.
- Experience: Previous experience in a retail or hospital pharmacy is an added advantage.
