Job Summary
The Steel Fitter is responsible for the fabrication, fitting, assembly, and installation of structural steel components used in bridge construction projects. The role involves reading engineering drawings, aligning steel members, carrying out erection activities, and ensuring that all work is completed safely and according to project specifications and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret structural drawings, fabrication drawings, and erection plans.
- Measure, mark, cut, and fit steel members according to project requirements.
- Assemble and install bridge steel structures, including girders, beams, bracings, diaphragms, and other structural components.
- Align and position steel sections using hand tools, lifting equipment, and measuring instruments.
- Assist in bolting, riveting, and preparing steel components for welding activities.
- Inspect steel components for dimensions, alignment, and fit-up before final installation.
- Coordinate with welders, crane operators, riggers, and supervisors during erection activities.
- Ensure compliance with approved drawings, project specifications, and quality standards.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in safe and good condition.
- Follow all safety procedures, including working at heights and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Report defects, material shortages, and safety concerns to the supervisor.
- Assist in dismantling, repair, and modification of structural steel components when required.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Ability to read and understand engineering and fabrication drawings.
- Knowledge of structural steel erection and bridge construction techniques.
- Good understanding of measurements, alignment, and fit-up procedures.
- Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and lifting equipment.
- Knowledge of safety procedures for construction and work at height.
- Ability to work in a team and under challenging site conditions.
Educational Qualification
- Minimum: ITI (Fitter Trade) or equivalent qualification preferred.
- Candidates with relevant bridge construction experience may also be considered.
Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in structural steel fitting.
- Preference will be given to candidates with experience in bridge, flyover, or heavy steel structure projects.
Physical Requirements
- Physically fit and capable of working outdoors and at heights.
- Ability to lift and handle heavy materials and tools.
Safety Requirements
- Mandatory use of PPE, including safety helmet, safety shoes, gloves, reflective jacket, and safety harness.
- Compliance with company safety policies and site-specific safety procedures.

Pay: ₹750.00 - ₹800.00 per day
