Job Summary:
The Assistant Scientist – Plant Pathology supports R&D activities through field and laboratory work involving plant
disease diagnosis, pathogen isolation, and screening trials. The role includes maintaining lab cultures, records, and
equipment, providing technical support to breeding programs, and assisting in disease management.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Collect plant disease samples of pathogenic bacteria, fungi, viruses, and insect vectors from field conditions.
- Preparation of different types of media and its sterilization & Preservation
- Maintaining lab equipment
- Perform Isolation of pathogen from different plant parts and its purification and multiplication in specific medium.
- Conduct pathogenicity tests for isolated pathogens and ensure their periodic preservation under ambient conditions.
- Screening of entries under artificial as well as natural conditions.
- Provide technical support to breeding and farming programs by diagnosing plant disease issues in fields and greenhouses and recommending appropriate disease management practices.
- Effectively communicate and collaborate with fellow research assistants with regard to crop handling for number of diseases and sharing phytopathology facilities.
- To maintain the lab records, entries, and analysis of the data, generate reports and their systemic keep up and also preservation of all newly isolated cultures with proper code name.
- Travel to out-of-state locations as required for field trials and research activities.
