JOB DESCRIPTION – MW API INFRASTRUCTURE ENGINEER

ROLE SUMMARY
The Associate Professional Middleware API Infrastructure Engineer with expertise in IBM DataPower and WMQ provides senior-level operational and architectural support for API gateway and messaging infrastructure. This role drives continuous improvement, automation, and governance for DataPower and MQ platforms.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the design and implementation of IBM DataPower API gateway policies and security configurations
- Manage IBM WMQ infrastructure including multi-instance queue managers and MQ clusters
- Develop automation scripts for MQ and DataPower provisioning, monitoring, and health checks
- Perform in-depth root cause analysis for production incidents on DataPower and MQ platforms
- Drive API governance processes including onboarding standards, versioning, and deprecation policies
- Collaborate with security teams to implement and audit API authentication and encryption standards
- Lead capacity planning and performance optimization projects for DataPower and WMQ
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance on DataPower and MQ best practices
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- 7-10 years of middleware experience with deep expertise in IBM DataPower and WMQ
- Advanced proficiency in DataPower policy development, GatewayScript, and XSLT
- Expert-level knowledge of IBM MQ cluster topologies, message persistence, and delivery guarantees
- Experience with IBM API Connect lifecycle management and developer portal configuration
- Strong scripting skills (Python, Shell, Ansible) for operational automation
- Knowledge of enterprise security standards and compliance frameworks (PCI-DSS, SOX)
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools for middleware platforms
GOOD TO HAVE
- Experience with containerized DataPower (DataPower on Kubernetes/OpenShift)
- Knowledge of event-driven integration patterns and Kafka/MQ bridging
- Exposure to APIC v10 and Cloud Pak for Integration
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- IBM certifications in DataPower or MQ are highly preferred
