We are looking for an experienced and highly organized Assignment Editor to coordinate daily news coverage, manage field assignments, and ensure seamless communication between the newsroom and reporting teams.
Job Summary
The Assignment Editor is responsible for planning, assigning, and monitoring daily news coverage while ensuring that reporters and camera crews are deployed efficiently. The role requires excellent editorial judgment, strong organizational skills, and the ability to make quick decisions in a fast-paced newsroom environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, assign, and coordinate daily news coverage and field assignments.
- Monitor breaking news, current events, and developing stories throughout the day.
- Allocate assignments to reporters, camera operators, and field correspondents based on priority and availability.
- Maintain constant communication with field teams to track assignment progress.
- Coordinate with Bureau Chiefs, News Anchors, Producers, Video Editors, and Digital Teams for smooth news operations.
- Verify assignment details, locations, schedules, and logistical requirements before dispatching teams.
- Prioritize breaking news coverage and reassign resources when necessary.
- Ensure timely delivery of news footage, scripts, and reports to the newsroom.
- Maintain an assignment calendar and daily newsroom schedule.
- Build and maintain contacts with government agencies, police departments, hospitals, public relations officers, and other news sources.
- Assist in editorial planning meetings and contribute story ideas.
- Ensure all assignments comply with editorial standards, legal requirements, and company policies.
Required Skills
- Strong editorial judgment and excellent news sense.

- Excellent communication skills in Hindi and English.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.

- Familiarity with newsroom management systems and digital news platforms.
- Good understanding of media laws and journalistic ethics.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, Media Studies, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in a newsroom, assignment desk, editorial coordination, or news production.
- Previous experience in digital, television, or print media is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience coordinating live news coverage and breaking news operations.
- Strong network of media contacts and news sources.
- Knowledge of digital publishing and newsroom workflow systems.
- Ability to manage logistics for multiple field teams.
- Experience working in a 24×7 newsroom environment.

Working Hours
- 6 Days a Week
- Rotational shifts based on newsroom operations.
