Job Summary
The Electrical Engineer is responsible for planning, supervising, maintaining, and optimizing all electrical systems and infrastructure within the hospital. The role ensures uninterrupted power supply, electrical safety compliance, preventive maintenance, energy efficiency, and operational reliability of critical healthcare equipment and facilities. The incumbent will lead electrical maintenance teams, coordinate with vendors, and support hospital accreditation and regulatory requirements.
Key ResponsibilitiesElectrical Systems Management
- Oversee the operation, maintenance, and performance of all hospital electrical systems.
- Ensure uninterrupted power supply to critical patient care areas including ICUs, OTs, Cath Labs, Emergency Departments, Laboratories, and Diagnostic Centers.
- Monitor electrical distribution networks, transformers, switchgear, panels, and power management systems.
- Maintain electrical load balancing and system reliability.
Preventive & Breakdown Maintenance
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for all electrical installations and equipment.
- Ensure timely troubleshooting and rectification of electrical faults.
- Minimize equipment downtime through proactive maintenance planning.
- Maintain records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections.
Power Backup & Critical Infrastructure Management
- Supervise the operation and maintenance of:
- Diesel Generator (DG) Sets
- UPS Systems
- Batteries and Battery Banks
- Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS)
- Power Distribution Units (PDU)
- Conduct regular testing of emergency power backup systems.
- Ensure readiness of electrical systems during emergencies and power outages.
Energy Management
- Monitor electrical consumption and implement energy-saving initiatives.
- Analyze utility bills and recommend cost optimization measures.
- Support implementation of energy-efficient technologies and green building practices.
- Track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to energy utilization.
Regulatory Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, electrical safety standards, and hospital accreditation requirements.
- Conduct periodic electrical safety audits and inspections.
- Ensure adherence to:
- National Electrical Code (NEC)
- Electrical Inspectorate Regulations
- Fire & Life Safety Standards
- NABH and other healthcare accreditation requirements
- Investigate electrical incidents and implement corrective actions.
Team Leadership & Supervision
- Lead and supervise electricians, technicians, and maintenance personnel.
- Assign work schedules and monitor team performance.
- Provide technical guidance and training to staff.
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures and work permits.
Vendor & Contractor Management
- Coordinate with contractors and external service providers for specialized maintenance and projects.
- Evaluate vendor performance and service quality.
- Verify completion of work as per technical specifications and safety standards.
- Assist in vendor selection and contract management.
Project Management
- Support electrical infrastructure expansion, renovation, and modernization projects.
- Review electrical drawings, layouts, and technical specifications.
- Coordinate installation and commissioning activities.
- Ensure projects are completed within budget and timelines.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain updated electrical schematics, maintenance logs, and equipment records.
- Prepare technical reports, audit reports, and monthly maintenance summaries.
- Maintain statutory documentation and compliance records.
- Support accreditation audits and inspections.
Hospital Equipment Support
- Coordinate with Biomedical Engineering teams for electrical requirements of medical equipment.
- Ensure adequate power quality and electrical protection for critical medical devices.
- Support installation and commissioning of new healthcare equipment.
Required QualificationsEducation
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (B.E./B.Tech – Electrical Engineering).
- Additional certification in Electrical Safety, Energy Management, or Facility Management is preferred.
Experience
- 6–10 years of experience in Electrical Engineering and Maintenance.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a hospital, healthcare facility, or large institutional environment.
- Experience managing critical electrical systems, DG sets, UPS systems, and healthcare infrastructure is preferred.
