Job Purpose
To lead and execute the complete design of plastic injection moulds from customer requirements through mould manufacturing, ensuring technically sound, cost-effective, manufacturable and high-quality mould designs within the agreed timeline.
2. Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop plastic injection moulds as per customer drawings, specifications and product requirements.
- Prepare complete 2D and 3D mould designs, including mould assembly and individual component drawings.
- Develop mould concepts considering parting line, mould construction, ejection, cooling, gating and manufacturing feasibility.

- Ejector system
- Cooling system
- Hot runner / Cold runner system
- Guide & alignment system
- Mould base and standard components
- Study product drawings and identify DFM (Design for Manufacturing) issues before mould design.
- Conduct mould flow / feasibility analysis wherever required.
- Coordinate with NPD, Tool Room, Production, Quality and Purchase teams for smooth execution.
- Review customer specifications and incorporate design changes as required.
- Prepare BOM, component drawings and mould assembly drawings.
- Ensure proper selection of standard mould components and materials.
- Support tool room during CNC, EDM, VMC, wire-cut and fitting activities by resolving design-related issues.
- Attend mould trials and provide technical support for correction and improvement.
- Analyze trial observations and implement necessary design modifications.
- Maintain proper revision control of drawings and design documents.
- Ensure designs are completed within the planned tool manufacturing timeline.
- Identify opportunities for reducing mould cost, cycle time and manufacturing complexity.
- Maintain design standards, templates and engineering documentation.
- Support customer discussions related to mould design and technical feasibility.
- Guide Junior Design Engineers / Designers and review their work.
- Ensure compliance with company quality systems and applicable ISO / IATF 16949 requirements.
3. Required Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of Plastic Injection Mould Design.
- Good understanding of injection mould construction and mould components.
- Knowledge of:
- Parting line selection
- Core & cavity design
- Runner and gating systems
- Hot runner systems
- Ejection systems
- Cooling systems
- Slides and lifters
- Unscrewing mechanisms
- Inserts
- Mould bases
- Knowledge of plastic materials and their moulding characteristics.
- Understanding of DFM / DFA principles.
- Ability to interpret customer/product drawings and GD&T.
- Knowledge of machining processes such as CNC/VMC, EDM, Wire EDM, Grinding and conventional machining.
- Good problem-solving and technical analysis skills.
- Knowledge of mould trial and troubleshooting.
4. Software Skills
Essential:
- AutoCAD
- 3D CAD software such as UG NX / Siemens NX, Creo, CATIA, SolidWorks or equivalent.
Preferred:
- Moldflow or similar mould-flow analysis software.
- MS Excel / MS Office.

7. Preferred Experience
Candidates with experience in automotive plastic injection mould design, 2K moulds, multi-cavity moulds, hot runner moulds, engineering plastics and complex mould mechanisms will be preferred.
8. Authority & Accountability
The Senior Design Engineer is responsible for ensuring that all assigned mould designs are technically correct, manufacturable, documented properly and completed within the approved project schedule, while coordinating effectively with the Tool Room and other concerned departments.
