Job Title: Electrical Engineering Head
Job Summary
The Electrical Engineering Head is responsible for leading all electrical engineering, maintenance, and power distribution activities across the steel plant. This role ensures the reliability, safety, and efficiency of electrical systems, production equipment, and utility infrastructure. The position oversees preventive and predictive maintenance programs, manages electrical projects, ensures compliance with statutory regulations, and drives continuous improvement to maximize plant availability and productivity.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the electrical engineering and maintenance team to ensure safe and reliable plant operations.
- Develop and implement preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance strategies for electrical equipment.
- Ensure uninterrupted operation of power distribution systems, substations, transformers, switchgear, motors, drives, and plant utilities.
- Oversee electrical systems for steel melting furnaces, rolling mills, continuous casting machines, cranes, compressors, pumps, and material handling equipment.
- Plan and execute electrical maintenance shutdowns with minimal impact on production.
- Monitor equipment performance and implement corrective actions to reduce downtime and improve reliability.
- Lead troubleshooting of major electrical faults and root cause analysis of equipment failures.
- Manage electrical capital projects, including equipment installation, commissioning, upgrades, and modernization.
- Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards, statutory regulations, and company policies.
- Coordinate with production, mechanical, instrumentation, and quality departments to support production targets.
- Manage maintenance budgets, spare parts inventory, vendor performance, and contractor activities.
- Prepare maintenance reports, equipment reliability metrics, energy consumption reports, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Promote energy conservation initiatives and improve electrical system efficiency.
- Train, mentor, and develop engineers, supervisors, electricians, and maintenance personnel.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's degree is an advantage).
- 5–8 years of experience in electrical engineering and maintenance within a steel manufacturing plant, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems used in steel plants, including induction furnaces, electric arc furnaces (EAF), rolling mills, continuous casting machines, and utility systems.
- Experience with HT/LT power distribution, substations, transformers, switchgear, VFDs, PLCs, SCADA, MCCs, and industrial automation.
- Familiarity with electrical safety standards, preventive maintenance practices, and statutory compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in maintenance management systems (CMMS/ERP) and Microsoft Office.
