Meditrina Hospital, Kollam invites applications from qualified and dedicated candidates for the position of Physician Assistant in the Emergency Room (ER) / Casualty Department. The Physician Assistant in the ER/Casualty Department shall assist Emergency Physicians and Consultants in delivering prompt, efficient, and evidence-based emergency medical care to patients presenting with acute illnesses, trauma, accidents, and other medical emergencies.
The candidate is expected to support patient assessment, triage, clinical procedures, emergency interventions, patient stabilization, documentation, and coordination of multidisciplinary emergency care services while ensuring compliance with hospital policies, NABH standards, infection control practices, and patient safety protocols.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
- Assist Emergency Physicians in evaluating and managing patients attending the ER/Casualty Department.
- Participate in the initial assessment and stabilization of emergency and critically ill patients.
- Record patient history, vital signs, allergies, medications, and relevant clinical findings accurately.
- Assist in triage and prioritization of patients based on severity and urgency of medical condition.
- Prepare patients for examination, investigations, procedures, and emergency interventions.
- Assist doctors during emergency procedures including:
- Suturing
- Dressing
- Intubation
- Catheterization
- CPR and resuscitation
- Central line procedures
- Nebulization
- Minor surgical procedures
- Support in trauma care management and emergency response protocols.
- Monitor patient condition continuously and immediately report any deterioration to the concerned Doctor.
- Assist in administration of medications, IV fluids, oxygen therapy, and emergency treatment as directed by the Physician.
- Ensure timely collection and transportation of laboratory samples.
- Coordinate for Radiology, Laboratory, ICU admission, referrals, and interdepartmental transfers.
- Assist in handling medico-legal cases (MLC) as per hospital policies and statutory requirements.
- Participate actively during Code Blue and other emergency situations.
- Ensure emergency equipment and crash carts are functional, stocked, and ready for use at all times.
Documentation & Records Management
- Maintain accurate and complete patient records and emergency documentation.
- Assist in preparation of case sheets, admission notes, discharge summaries, procedure notes, and treatment records.
- Ensure proper documentation of all emergency interventions and procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and medical records.
- Ensure timely updating of electronic medical records (EMR/HIS) wherever applicable.
Patient Care & Communication
- Provide compassionate, ethical, and patient-centered care at all times.
- Communicate effectively with patients and their relatives regarding investigations, procedures, and treatment coordination.
- Assist in counseling patients and attenders regarding emergency care processes.
- Maintain professionalism and empathy while dealing with critically ill patients and their families.
Infection Control & Safety Responsibilities
- Follow infection prevention and control policies strictly.
- Adhere to hand hygiene protocols and biomedical waste management guidelines.
- Ensure use of appropriate PPE during patient care and procedures.
- Assist in maintaining cleanliness, safety, and readiness of ER/Casualty areas.
- Report incidents, adverse events, medication errors, or safety concerns immediately to the concerned authority.
NABH & Quality Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with NABH standards and hospital quality protocols.
- Participate in departmental quality improvement activities and audits.
- Adhere to hospital SOPs, emergency protocols, and patient safety initiatives.
- Participate in training programs, mock drills, CMEs, and emergency preparedness activities.
Eligibility CriteriaEducational Qualification
- BSc Physician Assistant OR
- Bachelor Degree in Allied Health Sciences from a recognized institution.
Experience: Minimum 1–3 years of experience in:
- Emergency Department
- Casualty
- ICU
- Critical Care
- Trauma Care
- Freshers with excellent clinical exposure may also apply.

- Basic understanding of emergency procedures and trauma protocols.
