An ATL (Atal Tinkering Lab) in-charge is a teacher responsible for managing and leading the innovation lab within a school, acting as a champion for student-led projects and ensuring the lab runs smoothly. This role involves a variety of duties, including training students, managing equipment, maintaining records, coordinating with mentors and vendors, and following an annual activity calendar. The in-charge is crucial for fostering a creative and safe environment where students can develop new skills and bring their ideas to life.
Key responsibilities
- Student mentoring and training: Guides students on tool usage, idea development, and prototyping, while ensuring they follow safety guidelines.
- Lab management: Oversees the day-to-day operations, including conducting sessions, managing the inventory of equipment, and handling consumables.
- Coordination: Acts as a bridge between the school leadership, external mentors, and vendors to ensure smooth collaboration and operations.
- Documentation and reporting: Keeps records of lab activities, student attendance, and project progress, and submits timely reports to the school and the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM).
- Calendar management: Plans and executes an annual ATL calendar with workshops, competitions, and other activities to ensure structured learning.
- Safety and discipline: Enforces safety rules and ensures a disciplined environment within the lab.
- Teacher development: Participates in training sessions conducted by AIM to stay up-to-date with new technologies and curriculum integration.
Qualifications and compensation
- Qualifications: The in-charge should be competent, motivated, and have a passion for technology and innovation. While a specific educational background is not mandatory, a background in science, engineering, math, or design is ideal.
- Experience: Prior experience working with students on innovation projects is a plus.
- Honorarium: An honorarium of ₹5,000 per month is provided to the ATL in-charge.
How a school appoints an in-charge
- The school can appoint any teacher who has the necessary passion and technical understanding.
- The teacher can be a subject teacher or be exclusively dedicated to the ATL role.
