Role Summary
Operate edge banding machines to apply PVC, ABS, acrylic, or wood veneer edge tape to cut panels. Your job is to make every edge smooth, sealed, and clean so the panel looks finished and lasts longer.
Key Responsibilities
1. Machine Operation
- Set up and run automatic/manual edge banding machines per job card
- Select correct edge tape thickness, color, and glue temperature for each material
- Feed panels through the machine at consistent speed to avoid misalignment
2. Quality Control
- Check edge adhesion, trimming, buffing, and corner finish
- Inspect for glue lines, gaps, over-trim, or burn marks before passing to assembly
- Maintain edge finish quality to match customer/sample standards
3. Maintenance & Safety
- Clean glue pots, trimmer units, and feed rollers daily to prevent buildup
- Monitor glue levels and temperature settings. Prevent overheating or cold bonding
- Use PPE: heat-resistant gloves, goggles, mask. Edge banders run hot
4. Material Handling
- Load/unload panels safely. Panels can be heavy and have sharp edges
- Match edge tape rolls to job requirements and minimize waste by splicing rolls properly
- Report material defects or machine faults immediately
Requirements
- 6 months to 1 year experience on edge banders preferred. Freshers with mechanical aptitude trained on job
- Ability to read job cards and follow color codes
- Good eye for detail. Small edge defects show up immediately in finished furniture
- Comfortable standing for 8-10 hour shifts
Nice to Have
- Experience with brands like Homag, SCM, Biesse, Jai
- Basic troubleshooting for glue, pressure, and trimmer issues
- Knowledge of different edge materials: PVC, ABS, 3D, laser edge
Performance Indicators
Low rework rate, minimal edge tape waste, on-time completion of batches, zero safety incidents.
Edge banding is where cheap panels start looking premium. A good operator is faster than the machine downtime they prevent.
Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹35,000.00 per month
